What a fantastic weekend at the Newcastle Medieval Festival of Friendship! ⚔️

Although the Illawarra Manticores didn't compete this year, we were proud to be there supporting the medieval combat community.

Our team spent the weekend squiring, helping fighters, cheering on teams, catching up with old friends, making new ones, and lending a hand wherever it was needed. It was a great opportunity to learn, support the sport we love, and be part of an incredible event.

I even dusted off my camera and spent some time behind the lens, capturing some of the amazing fighters, volunteers, and moments from across the weekend. 📸

A huge thank you to Team Ravengard for hosting another fantastic event and to everyone who made us feel so welcome. Congratulations to all the teams who competed—you put on an incredible show!

It was great to get out on the list at the Southern Realm Festival in Boonah for one of our mixed team fights.

Nick & Steve stepped onto the red team, putting their training to the test in a hard-fought battle.

Win or loose, its all about learning, improving and enjoying the sport we love.

What a beautiful warm, sunny day beside the lake for another great training session!

A special milestone today as young Max got kitted up in full armour for the very first time. It was his first opportunity to experience the weight, movement and feel of wearing a complete suit of armour—an exciting step on his medieval combat journey.

Everyone starts somewhere, and it's always fantastic to see new fighters building their confidence and taking the next step. Well done, Max! We can't wait to see your progress. 🛡️💪

Looking for a new sport that's exciting, challenging, and unlike anything else?

Come along and train with Illawarra Manticore Medieval Combat Inc. Whether you're completely new or have experience, we'd love to meet you!

Train in a fun and supportive environment while learning the fundamentals of medieval combat, improving your fitness, building confidence, and becoming part of an amazing team.

⚔️ No armour or experience required – we have beginner equipment available.
👥 Ages 16+ welcome for soft kit training.

The Illawarra Manticore have arrived home safely after an incredible weekend at the Southern Realm Festival at Boonah Showgrounds!

What an amazing two day's of medieval combat, great weather, fantastic fights, and even better company. It was wonderful catching up with so many of our friends from teams across Australia.

Day One 🛡 The Illawarra Manticore fought as part of the Red Team in the mixed Buhurt battles. 🏆 A huge congratulations to Nick, who was awarded Most Valuable Player for his outstanding performance!

Day Two 🛡 The Manticore joined the Purple Team in the mixed Buhurt battles. 🥇The Purple Team fought hard and took first place! Nick competed in Outrance fights, earning an impressive 2nd place. ⚔ Steve had an absolute blast competing in duels.

A massive thank you to the organisers, volunteers, marshals, fighters and everyone who made the weekend such a fantastic event. We had an amazing time, shared plenty of laughs, made more memories, and can't wait to do it all again.

Day 1 at the Southern Realms Festival ⚔️

What a fantastic first day! We had an absolute blast on the battlefield, catching up with friends and enjoying some incredible buhurt action.

A huge shout-out to Steve and Nick, who fought for the Red Team today. This tournament was full of firsts for Nick—his very first tournament, his first time fighting in full armour, and best of all... his very first takedown! 💪 Nick #7

What an incredible first day at the Southern Realms Festival! ⚔️

The Illawarra Manticores had an awesome day, with Steve and Nick stepping into the Wild Wyverns Buhurt Tournament and giving it everything they had. They both fought hard, had an absolute blast, and represented the team with pride.

A huge congratulations to Nick, who was awarded Most Valuable Player (MVP)! 🏆 What a fantastic achievement and a well-deserved recognition for all your hard work and determination.

We're so proud of the whole team and can't wait to see what Day 2 brings. Let's go, Manticores! 🛡️🦁
