I know a lot of clients use the Nutbrook Trail and this section being closed is causing issues for dog walks, running and cycling.
Fingers crossed a sensible outcome follows getting the Nutbrook Trail open properly and safely for all users.
π² COUNCILLORS TO DECIDE ON CONTROVERSIAL CYCLE ROUTE CLOSURE PLAN
A proposal to lock part of National Cycle Route 67 in Ilkeston behind security gates overnight is due to be considered by councillors next week.
The application relates to the new section of the Nutbrook Trail at New Stanton Park, which was built to replace the former route affected by the redevelopment of the Stanton site.
The developer originally applied to close the route between 6pm and 7am for three years.
The application attracted five objections, with concerns raised about evening cycling, early morning commuting and public access to the route.
Planning officers have recommended a different approach.
If approved, the route would instead be closed between 9pm and 7am, with the temporary permission limited to two years rather than the three years originally requested.
The developer says the restrictions are needed because of ongoing security issues at the site, while objectors argue the route should remain as accessible as possible.
The application will be decided by Erewash Borough Council's Planning Committee on Wednesday 10 June.
We've published a full breakdown of the proposal and objections on the Ilkeston News website.
π¬ What do you think? Should the route be closed overnight while work continues, or should it remain open 24 hours a day?
