It took me years to realize my loneliness was never about having more people around me.
It was me abandoning myself.
Self abandonment can look like having a daily conversation with yourself about why you should be happy in a marriage you’re not happy in, and want to stay in, because it isn’t bad enough to leave.
It looks like staying in a career that supports the family and squeezes everything out of you.
It looks like being around people who drain you because you don’t want to rock the boat.
Any time you tell yourself that what’s important to you is not important, that’s self abandonment.
But something happens when you get to a certain age and reach a new level of awareness.
You go looking for the thing that has to change, and it keeps turning out to be a conversation you’ve been having with yourself for years.
There is a way out of it, without turning your whole world upside down.
More tomorrow.
See you then,
E
