The rain has gone, the wind has dropped......Spring has sprung. It's beautiful on the Moor. We have some availability for a ride out on Tuesday and Wednesday this week. All abilities welcome. Look forward to you joining us.

Lambing is well underway and here are a few cuties 🥰 . Our White Face Dartmoor and Lleyn flocks. We even have our first set of triplets, which the children are very excited about 😀

Well, I know this feeling!

Sometimes Dartmoor asks us to trust instinct.

Today was one of those days where I could see no ponies anywhere. Despite having a plan, I felt strongly drawn to walk in the opposite direction. Following that quiet sense of where the moor was leading, I continued on past a couple of tors.

Then suddenly, there they were.

The Shilstone Rocks herd, sheltering from the bitter wind beside the tor, standing in the warmth of the morning sun just beyond the chill. These ponies know the moor intimately, where to stand, where to conserve energy, where to find comfort in even the harshest conditions.

For a brief moment, the weather shifted. The light softened, the wind eased, and a perfect arch of a rainbow formed across the sky above them.

A fleeting moment of calm between the showers, the herd simply resting, conserving strength, and continuing their quiet work shaping this landscape through natural grazing.

Dartmoor never gives up its moments easily, but when it does, they remind us why these semi-wild ponies remain such an important part of the ecology here, helping maintain the varied mosaic of habitats that support biodiversity across the moor .

One of those days when the right decision was simply to keep walking.
