One thing that often holds most people back or they rely on is Validation. Which can be the result of many things but more so than not, a lack of self confidence.
At home, work, friendship groups, school and family networks, people take comfort in seeking and receiving it from a variety of sources and places.
Growing up right until the last couple of years, I’ve always, consciously and subconsciously, needed and seeked validation.
I noticed certain people, businesses and professionals and looked up to them. Idolised them, wanted to be like them and did what ever I could to not only receive validation but to feel accepted by them.
This was a huge life lesson for me. Because you know what I eventually learned?
I learned the fact that all these years I didn’t need anyone else’s approval, acceptance or validation and that in fact, all three of these things, start internally.
As soon as I accepted, validated and approved of myself, life looked different. Things became easier. Then I had the confidence to change what I didn’t accept or like.
I also learned another very powerful lesson.
Some of those professionals, people and businesses i held on a pedestal for so long, lacked in major qualities I already had. Morals, Manners, Etiquette, Decency and self discipline.
Then I learned that I never needed their approval, acceptance or validation in the first place because they were seeking it too. They just did a better job of hiding it.
So next time you THINK you need somebody else’s approval, acceptance or validation, look in the mirror and ask yourself. ‘Do I accept or like what I see?’.
If the answer is yes, love yourself, be kinder to yourself and the confidence will grow.
If no, change what you see. Become who you want to be.
NEVER rely on or look for others to make you feel accepted, validated or approved of, because sometimes that individual you look up to, isnt who they portray themselves to be.
