What a cracking weekend we had at Wiscombe Park Hillclimb for the 50th anniversary of Five Clubs, having been on the reserve list until a week before!

The sun shine brightly on us for the two days, and the Imp revelled in the dry but cooler September air. On Saturday morning it felt like a racehorse coming out of the gate! 🐎

We both had good runs all weekend, still with our old PBs as our aims. By the end of Sunday, Jen had smashed her 2014 PB (54.08) by 0.4 with 53.69 before lunch, and stayed under 54 in the afternoon 😁

Alex was a gnat’s whisker away from his 2015 PB (52.61) pushing the Imp to 52.65 on his final run 😮 leaving him with 4/100 sec of unfinished business…

It’s the first time in 13 years we’ve been on a reserve list - never again! 😂

We’re not doing this event but I’m sharing this case any of our followers up near Edinburgh fancy a day at the races and can help 🏁

Our Hillclimb events are the mainstay for our club. This is the key 2 weekends we run every year, that forms rounds of the Scottish Hillclimb Championship, Lowland Speed Championship, and XBC Championship.

Alistair Reid is our Chief Marshal. All of our Track Day regulars will know Alistair with his car on top of the hill at every track day we do.

Now Alistair and the Club need your help. We're desperately short of Marshals for the Hillclimb, 29th and 30th August 2026, please if you can give up a day, Saturday or Sunday or even both, we'd be extremely grateful.

It is less than 2 weeks until the next Forrestburn Hillclimb and we have 90 competitors lined up to compete. The officials are in place so all we need know is the marshals. At the time of writing, I only have 9 marshals including myself. I should have 21. I know we have run with fewer but 9 is simply not enough. I can't continue like this so it is up to the Monklands Sporting Car Club members to fill the gap. I, the Club, the competitors and officials need you to step forward.

Alex: “This is my ‘fastest’ run from our first time competing in the Lotus Elite at Castle Combe, you can see it is definitely Not fast or competitive, more of a Sunday drive! I was desperately trying to learn what the car was telling me and how to drive it.

I’ve left the video long so if you’ve never been there or done a sprint you can see how it all works. You can hear the marshal at the beginning saying Nice Car! Which happened a lot!”

Since getting home we suspect the car was running on 3.5 cylinders all day with a loose plug lead 🙄😳 in which case we’ll be a lot faster next time! 😁👍🏻

It is a good opportunity for a clean out in the Imp before the seats and harness go back in, they’ve been on loan to the Lotus! And having bought a Fire Safety Stick for the Lotus, we’ve got one for the Imp as well; just need to decide where to fit it.

We had a great day at Castle Combe Circuit for the Bristol Motor Club Dick Mayo Sprint on 1st August. It was a fantastic event, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved and to all the volunteers. We caught up with lots of old friends, made some new ones, and met so many lovely people throughout the day.

The Lotus was definitely one of the stars of the event, with so many people stopping to tell us just how beautiful they thought it was. Moments like that remind us how lucky we are to be the custodians of such a fantastic car. It did everything we asked of it, and we’re really enjoying learning how to get the very best from it. Every event teaches us something new, and we’ve come away with plenty of ideas and a list of jobs to tackle before the next outing!
