3๏ธโƒฃ from 4๏ธโƒฃ for our senior Saturday sides this week!

The First XI lost a low scoring game away at Camborne CC by two wickets. Batting first, we lost early wickets and were in trouble at 48-5, before Billy Uglow (41) and Adam Hodgson (29) put on 74 for the sixth wicket. We were eventually bowled out for 152 in the 48th over. In reply, Paul Smith (2-23), Adam Hodgson (2-26) and Thulina Dilshan (2-49) all took wickets through the middle, but we just didnโ€™t have enough runs to get over the line!

The Second XI won an important game at home to strugglers Holsworthy CC by 8 wickets. Bowling first, we restricted the visitors to 172 all out- Dan Jenkin (2-7) and Darren Webber (2-26) both picking up wickets. In the run chase, Rob May made a half century in an opening stand of 78 with son Marley (36), with George Rickard finishing things off with 52 not out.

The Third XI won away at Gorran CC by 5 wickets. We restricted the hosts to 219-7 in their 45 overs, Sam Uglow (3-50) and Freddie Ward (2-33) the pick of the bowlers. Paul Miller lead with the bat, making a match winning 89, who was ably supported by Dan Howgill (42*) and Hugh Tomkinson (39) in first game back this season from university.

The Fourth XI comfortably won at home to Grampound Road CC 3rds by 8 wickets. Tom Petherick (3-21), Grace Kirby (3-26), Emma Horrell (2-17) and George Petherick (2-22) were all amongst the wickets. In reply, Rory Sachs carried his bat for 57 not out with his first senior half century. Young Ralph Hodgson also made 27, as we passed the target with fifteen overs to spare.

2๏ธโƒฃ from 4๏ธโƒฃ for the senior sides on Saturday!

The First XI eased to a nine-wicket victory at home to St Austell CC. Sam Hockin struck twice early, before veteran spinners Adam Hodgson (3-8) and Ben Smeeth (2-24) did much of the damage in the middle overs to help reduce the visitors to 174 all out. After losing an early wicket, Mark Gribble (102*) and Ben Smeeth (67*) shared an unbroken second wicket stand of 178 to coast home and win the 42nd over.

The Second XI lost a low scoring game away at St Austell CC 2nds. Batting first, Tom Lyle made 47* as we limped to 120 all out. In reply, the hosts were coasting at 79-1 before the introduction of Dan Jenkin almost turned the game on its head- taking 5-5 from just 3 overs, earlier skipper Jason Seldon took 2-30, but the hosts snuck home by two wickets.

The Third XI won by 34 runs away at Tideford CC. Dan Warring added to his excellent season, making 87 and was well supported by Nick Ward and Henry Howson- who both made 36 in our total of 231-7. In reply, we bowled the hosts out for 197, with Freddie Ward (3-37), and spin twins Tom Petherick (2-19) & Sam Uglow (2-26) all in the wickets.

The Fourth XI lost to high flying Saltash CC 2nds by 150 runs at Ladycross. The visitors made 285-6 batting first, with Emma Horrell (2-44) and Felix Rai (2-49) making inroads. In reply, it was only Felix Rai that got going, as he made a well compiled 73, as we were bowled out for 135.

The First XI lost away to table topping Penzance CC in a high scoring game by nine runs. The hosts made an imposing 303-3 with Mark Taskis, Sam Hockin and Dan Barnard each taking a wicket apiece. In reply, we were on the ropes at 103-6 before the tail wagged to see us finish on 294-9- Mark Gribble again in the runs with a well compiled 85, Dan Barnard made 69 not out in a tenth wicket partnership of 80 with Mark Taskis (24*) and skipper Nick Lawson made 36.

The Second XI won at home to St Blazey CC by 67 runs. Batting first, Zander Zambuni and Rob May both made 40โ€™s, with Lee Houghton making 24 late on in our total of 213. The visitors were then shot out for 146, with Jordan Duke (3-20), Freddie Ward (2-27), Sam Smeeth (2-31) and Toby Ward (2-44) all amongst the wickets!

The Third XI lost their local derby to Launceston CC by 127 runs at Ladycross! Tom Petherick led with the ball, taking 3-33 as the visitors made an impressive 287-9. In reply, the chase never got going, and we were struggling at 96-9, before skipper Ian Worsnip (62) and young George Petherick (28*) put on 64 for the tenth wicket, before we were dismissed for 160.

The 4th XI lost on their travels to St Minver CC 2nds. Grace Kirby made 28 and Ralph Hodgson 20 in our low total of 124 all out. Young leg spinner Vivaan Sharath then took 5-37 in a great attempt to defend a low total, as the visitors passed our total for the loss of 7 wickets.

A thriller at St Minver!

A thriller at St Minver!

An absolute thriller of a match! ๐Ÿ Our U11s pulled off a incredibly close victory away at St Minver this evening in a game we will remember for a long time.

We lost the toss and were sent in to bat. Harry P and Archie W got us off to a flying startโ€”easily our strongest start of the season! They hit a flurry of runs, smashing some brilliant 6s and making perfect use of the short leg-side boundary, even though we lost a couple of wickets in the process. Robyn S and Ezra A backed up the opening fireworks with a fantastic partnership, putting in probably their best performances with the bat so far.

Our final two pairs didn't quite find their usual rhythm, but you have to take your hats off to St Minver. They were simply excellent in the field, taking some spectacular catches and showing real signs that they are improving with every single game under their coaching team. ๐Ÿ‘

We set a decent total against their tight bowling and went out to field knowing we had to work hard. We were a little off the boil in places, but as is the norm with this group, their team spirit pushed them through! We grabbed the odd wicket, and some fantastic boundary stopsโ€”including a couple of crucial ones from Jack Sโ€”really helped slow down their scoring rate.

The Turning Point:
Midway through, Harry P decided to come on to bowl, which meant Robyn S took over as wicketkeeper. She did an absolutely incredible job, especially considering it was only her second time with the gloves! Harryโ€™s spell worked perfectly, picking up 2 vital wickets in his 2 overs to put us right back in contention.

The Climax:
It all came down to the final pair, who needed just 16 to win. Ezra A and Ed M bowled incredibly tight overs, giving away very few runs, but we desperately needed wickets.

Bailey F and Jack S were handed the ball for the final 2 overs. With St Minver needing just 2 runs, we managed an excellent run-out at the very end of Baileyโ€™s over, swinging the momentum and leaving the hosts needing 10 off the final over!

Jack stepped up for the last 6 balls. First delivery... WICKET! โ˜๏ธ That instantly took the pressure off, and Jack closed out the game with 3 dot balls to seal a 10-run victory!

The atmosphere at the end was just amazing. With all the parents and players shouting instructions and cheering for both sides, it was beautiful cricketing chaos and a fantastic evening of entertainment.

Match Awards & Mentions:

๐Ÿ† Player of the Match: Robyn S! A truly fantastic all-round display with the bat, the ball, and behind the stumps.

๐ŸŒŸ Special Mentions: Archie W and Harry P for displaying some top-tier cricket, and Ezra A, who is really showing what a fantastic player he is turning into!

What a team! ๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’›
