WEIGHT LOSS ≠ FAT LOSS 👀
Yep… they sound like the same bloody thing, but they’re not.
As a female specialist PT, one of the biggest things I want women to understand — especially through midlife and menopause — is that the number on the scales doesn’t tell the whole story.
Weight loss means your total body weight has decreased.
That weight can come from:
💧 Water
💪 Muscle
🍽️ Food sitting in your digestive system
🧈 Body fat
So yes, you can “lose weight” without losing much body fat at all.
Fat loss is specifically reducing the amount of stored body fat you carry.
And THAT is often what women actually mean when they say:
“I want to lose weight.”
What you probably mean is:
“I want to lose some body fat, keep or build muscle, feel stronger, look more defined and not end up looking like a deflated bloody balloon.” 😂
This is where strength training + adequate protein + an appropriate calorie deficit become seriously important.
Resistance training helps preserve — and potentially build — muscle while you’re losing fat.
And muscle matters. It supports strength, function, metabolic health and bone health, which becomes increasingly important as we move through midlife and menopause.
So please don't panic because the scales haven't moved for a week.
If your waist measurement is changing, your clothes fit differently, you're getting stronger and your body composition is improving…
YOU ARE STILL MAKING PROGRESS. ❤️
The scales are ONE measurement.
They are not the CEO of your fu***ng progress. 😂
Stop chasing the smallest number possible.
Start focusing on losing fat, building muscle and becoming a stronger, healthier version of you.
Because your goal shouldn't be to weigh as little as possible.
It should be to feel fu***ng amazing in the body you have. 💪❤️
