I qualified as a personal trainer in California and learnt from some of the top US professionals, including former Olympian Maurice Greene and NASM Master Instructor Scott Mitchell. My sessions focus on functional/everyday movement; using elements of flexibility, core, balance, plyometric and weight training. Whatever your goals the training model that I use can be used to create a very effective

programme – ensuring you workouts build on a solid foundation in order to allow continued advancements in both performance and results.

Just to prove to Luke Gifford that I'm embracing the grind. 100 kettlebell swings and 100 (very unpleasant) shoulder presses this morning.

Workout 2 finished, 100 squats and 100 rows. Similar stuff for the next 3 or 4 weeks (Monday, Wednesday and Friday), plus some conditioning work, healthy eating (once I polish off the Christmas chocolate), decent sleep and plenty of water.

First proper workout of 22 done! Low resistance, high reps. 5 mins skipping, mobility, 100 walking lunges and 100 push ups.

It's been 4 weeks and I'm pleased to say I've stuck with the fitness plan and am ready to move to the next block tonight.

We're changing from the basic stuff into conditioning. More exercises, less rest and hopefully a bit more heavy breathing and sweat.

Thanks to Neil and Luke who've been joining me online. It's been really nice to have some workout buddies. Any other clients/friends are welcome.

It looks like schools may be back from the 8th of March, so this will hopefully be when I return to work. Can't wait! If anyone needs anything before then, please feel free to let me know.

A successful first week. I don't worry about the scales too much, but according to Garmin it's a few kg off and a shift from 12.9% body fat to 11.3%.
What I want to see is improvement in the workouts. I'll be repeating the same format for 3 more weeks and trying to do a little better each time (especially in the core session, which was disappointingly hard - the Ab Wheel killed me).
The exercise has been good, I've been diligent with the food (no snacking unless it's around exercise, almost no alcohol and lots of nutritious food - plus one brownie and one fish and chips). Importantly there's also been a lot of general activity. Getting a dog has been a great move, for many reasons, a good walk every day has been very helpful.
So back to workout 1 at 8pm tonight......
