That’s a wrap on the 2026 season on the field for Eaton Socon! 💛🖤
The Third Team finished their league campaign with a home victory over Road Runners! With the ball, Harry Dixon was the star of the show, taking an excellent 4-24 from 7 overs, with wickets also going to Alexi Idiculla, Abi Vaingade and 2 for Gareth Thomas.
With the bat, a brilliant opening partnership between Tommo Newton and Nathan Jones got the Third Team off to a strong start. Tommo then retired before a quick cameo from Tom Hagger, followed by a rapid 31 not out from Ben Heywood, helped see the team over the line alongside Nathan. 👏
The Development Team also finished with a victory, beating Cottenham in their final friendly of the season!
With the ball, the leg-spin duo of Rhiyarn Gandhi and Alfie Ashpole led the way, picking up 3 and 2 wickets respectively. The other wickets were shared around, with one each for Alexi Idiculla, Gabriel Fu, Ben Heywood, Noah Goodey and Casey Barrett.
With the bat, there was a huge opening partnership between Aaryan Gandhi and Jon Cooley, with both hitting half-centuries. Jon retired on 61, his maiden half-century for the club! Contributions from Gabriel Fu and Barry Cavilla followed, before Ben Davies and Ben Heywood saw the Development Team over the line. 👏
The Development Team then brought the season to a close with a narrow defeat away at Papworth.
With the ball, Gareth Thomas and Ben Davies got the team off to a very tidy start, with wickets throughout the innings for Alfie Ashpole, Casey Barrett and Ben Davies, while Gareth finished with 2 wickets.
With the bat, the team found themselves 34-4 after some excellent catches from the Papworth side. The recovery was led by Russ Davies and Max Jordison, who put together a brilliant 122-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Russ was adjudged LBW.
Gareth Thomas joined Max at the crease, but Max was unfortunately run out coming back for a second, falling for a superb 118 on an up-and-down pitch. The young lads alongside Gareth couldn’t quite get the team over the line, eventually falling 18 runs short.
