- A great week of training! Looking forward to the fall season! 🍁

- YOUR REST PERIOD IS PART OF THE PROGRAM. ⏱

Not every set should be trained at the same pace.

Heavy strength work? REST.

If you’re lifting heavy, you need time to recover so you can produce force and maintain good technique.

Work capacity? MOVE.

Shorter rest periods teach your body to recover and perform again while fatigued.

Hypertrophy? FIND THE BALANCE.

Moderate rest allows you to accumulate quality volume without completely recovering between every set.

The goal isn’t to rest as little as possible.

The goal is to rest enough to achieve the adaptation you’re training for.

Stop treating rest like wasted time.

Your pace is a training variable. Use it with purpose.

👇 What do you struggle with more: resting too long or rushing your rest?

🏆 Hall of Fame Shoutout: Charlize Prochaska

Charlize Prochaska has built her progress one workout at a time.

Tired? She still shows. Just finished a work shift? She still shows. Just had practice? She still shows. Doesn’t feel like training? She still shows.

Charlize has been stacking workouts at Sports AdvantEdge since 2022. Three to four workouts every week, year after year. And now, the fruits of that consistency are starting to show.

Her first recorded Box Squat was 55 pounds for 5 reps with a dumbbell. Today, she’s Box Squatting 195 pounds with an additional 50 pounds of band tension.

But it’s not just strength. Charlize has developed the speed and power to go along with it—and now has the tools to take that strength and explosiveness onto the soccer field.

Charlize doesn’t need to say much to change the atmosphere of a weight room. She exemplifies what hard work and consistency look like every time she walks through the door.

Four years of showing up. Four years of stacking days.

And lastly she just verbally committed to continue her playing career at St. Cloud State University

The results speak for themselves.

Keep rolling, Charlize. 👏

- Deloading

Every now and again athletes need a break, especially if they have been pushing themselves to the limit. Unfortunately for many athletes there are no downtimes. Sports are more than ever overlapping seasons, so there are very few times where athletes truly have time off. However, when athletes are able to rest and recover that is when they see the biggest improvements in their performance.

With our transition from summer hours to school hours our schedule is allowing some much needed downtime for our most consistent athletes. Athletes, use this time to recover, be social, work on something you’ve been too busy to do and reset yourself to be 100% ready to start back up this fall.

We are so excited for the upcoming school year and can’t wait to get things rolling.

Every now and again I’ll stumble across an old photo/video of an athlete and I think “wow, that’s not even the same person.” Shout out Drew Brouwer for all the work he has put in over the last 2+ years. These photos are from April 2024 and June 2026. This didn’t happen by accident or overnight. This happened with consistency and hard work over 300+ sessions in that timespan. Best of luck to Drew as he starts his sophomore year!

- Force, Speed, Endurance Relationship

Every athlete in every sport lives within the relationship between producing force (F), having endurance (E), and being fast (S). But depending on your sport and even your position, your specific training focus should be geared towards what is actually going to get you better.

This doesn’t mean that if you are a marathon runner you don’t ever focus on speed, or if you are a shot putter you never focus on the endurance. It means that the percentage of time working on those things can be less.

Improving your ability to produce force can help improve power production. Improving your speed can improve your speed reserve and allow you to run at a faster pace for distance events. Having better muscular endurance allows you to repeat efforts with less fatigue. Each piece of the puzzle benefits the other.

Every needs to be strong enough, everyone needs to be fast enough, everyone needs to have enough endurance, but having excess of what you don’t need might not help you push the needle forward.

Conjugate training is great for this concept because it is training everything at once all the time. All that needs to adjusted for is the volume of each to benefit you individually.
