A warm welcome to all crews arriving at the College for training this week! 👋

After last week's glorious heatwave, the weather has certainly taken a turn, and we're sadly swapping sunshine for rain, with a rather unsettled week ahead. 🌧️🌦️

Despite the forecast, it's set to be another busy and productive week across the College, with courses including Casualty Care, Crew Emergency Procedures, ILB Maintainer, Lifeguard Development, Seamanship, and many more.

Dedicated RNLI Ilfracombe volunteers came to the rescue of a stranded dog after she fell from a cliff path, tackling some extremely challenging conditions. We are happy you are all safe!

Today Jordan Wylie MBE joined the RNLI at The Wave to launch our Float to Live Campaign.

In 2024, there were 193 accidental drownings fatalities in the UK, 84% of which were male.

As an advocate for outdoor adventure, Jordan joined to learn and demonstrate our lifesaving skill.

If you find yourself in difficulty in the water, Float to Live.

• Tilt your head back with your ears submerged
• Relax and try to breathe normally
• Move your hands and feet to help you stay afloat
• It’s fine if your legs sink, we all float differently
• Practise floating in a local pool if you can

Share our lifesaving message and you too could be a lifesaver 💙

A warm welcome to all the crews and lifeguards joining us at the College this week for training, we’re delighted to have you with us.

With a range of courses taking place including Crew Emergency Procedures, Pre-Commissioning Training, Boat Handling, Lifeguard Senior Development and many more, it’s set to be a busy and exciting week! ⚓

This week also marks the start of National Volunteering Week in Ireland, and we’re especially pleased to welcome our Irish volunteers representing Courtown RNLI Lifeboat, Rosslare Harbour RNLI. Skerries RNLI, Larne RNLI and Portaferry RNLI 💙.

Our crews and lifeguards have travelled from all corners of the UK and Ireland, bringing together representatives from a wide range of stations, beaches and regions as they develop their skills and share experiences including Aberystwyth RNLI, Great Yarmouth & Gorleston Lifeboat, RNLI Margate lifeboat, RNLI New Brighton Lifeboat Station, RNLI Blackpool, RNLI Dungeness Lifeboat Station, RNLI Girvan Lifeboat, RNLI Montrose, Penlee Lifeboat, RNLI Weston-super-Mare, Bude RNLI Lifeboat, Fenit RNLI, RNLI Mudeford Lifeboat , Plymouth RNLI, Boldon, Chichester, Glenrothes, Hayle, Mullacott, Poole, Cardigan, Dawlish, Hastings, Helston, Perranporth and Roker.

A huge thank you to you all for your commitment and dedication to the RNLI. It’s because of you that we can continue to save lives at sea and on inland waters.

From Crispy Korean Hot Wings to Chicken Katsu Loaded Fries, come and try them out for yourselves.

A very warm welcome to all crews and lifeguards training with us in Poole this week! 🌊

Over the coming days we’ll be delivering a wide range of courses including Crew Emergency Procedures, Lifeguard Development, Approved Engine, ILB Maintainer, Coxswain and Mechanic courses.

The crews and lifeguards are representing the following stations and areas - Barrow Lifeboat, RNLI Blackpool, Gravesend RNLI, Little & Broad Haven Lifeboat, Morecambe Lifeboat, RNLI Penarth Lifeboat Station, RNLI Selsey Lifeboat, St Bees RNLI, Barry Dock RNLI, RNLI Fleetwood, RNLI Hoylake Lifeboat Station, RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat, Newhaven RNLI, RNLI Rhyl, Shoreham RNLI Lifeboat Station, Kingsbridge, Cardigan, Catfield, Perranporth, Scarborough, Swansea, Weymouth, Wirral and Rhyl.

This morning we were also delighted to welcome the arrival of the Her Majesty The Queen Mersey class lifeboat. Named in honour of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who served as our Patron for 70 years, the vessel has now taken up her new residence on our terrace outside Riggers Restaurant as part of recognising another important chapter in our charity’s rich lifesaving history.

The RNLI College extends their deepest condolences today to our fellow Search and Rescue colleagues from Marine Rescue New South Wales, Australia.

Six Marine Rescue NSW volunteers from Ballina answered the call to save lives at sea and assist a yacht, reported to be in difficulty.

Tragically, two volunteers lost their lives during the response.

Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Todd Andrews said “These two men were serving their local community and have made the ultimate sacrifice to help others”

Our thoughts are with their families, fellow crew members and the entire organisation.
