Another incredible Dive Rutland adventure is in the books!

From training new divers in the crystal-clear waters of the Red Sea to encounters with eagle rays, turtles, octopus, moray eels and much more, our latest trip to Roots Red Sea in El Quseir had everything we could have hoped for.

❓ W𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙨 𝙄𝙋𝙊 (𝙄𝙢𝙢𝙚𝙧𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙋𝙪𝙡𝙢𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙊𝙚𝙙𝙚𝙢𝙖), 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙞𝙨 𝙞𝙩 𝙢𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙜𝙚𝙙?

Following on from last week’s question, it’s important to understand not just what IPO is, but how it should be managed if it is suspected.

👉 𝗜𝗳 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘄𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿:
• The dive should be 𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆
• The diver should 𝗮𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹
• Exit the water as soon as it is safe to do so

👉 𝗜𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘀𝘆𝗺𝗽𝘁𝗼𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗯𝘂𝗱𝗱𝘆:
• Assist them to exit the water as quickly as it is safely possible

Once out of the water, the current guidance from diving medical experts is:
✔️ Sit the casualty 𝘂𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗳 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀
✔️ Administer 𝗼𝘅𝘆𝗴𝗲𝗻 if available
✔️ 𝗞𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗺
❌ Do NOT give fluids

⚠️ It is essential that 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗶𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝘆, even if symptoms appear to improve.

💡 IPO is a rare but serious condition — and the key to good outcomes is 𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗺, 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

𝗥𝘂𝘁𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝘆 𝗦𝗵𝗼𝘄 has closed its gates for another year… and what a year it was. An incredible 192 years of tradition, community, and rural life.

Thankfully the weather held, which always helps! Events like these are no small undertaking. They're not easy to organise, and they're certainly not easy for exhibitors and stall holders either. It takes a huge amount of effort from a lot of people behind the scenes to make them happen.

A big 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗼 𝗥𝗶𝗰𝗸 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝘂𝗸𝗲 𝗳or their support throughout the day, and to 𝗥𝗼𝗯 for helping get the marquee up and ready before the show.

Most importantly, thank you to everyone who stopped by for a chat. Whether you're someone we've known for years or someone we met for the very first time today, it was genuinely lovely to meet you all. Those conversations are what make these events worthwhile.
