Rutland Canoe Club is a club for people who paddle canoes or kayaks. We welcome new members, paddlers of all abilities, and are a friendly and active club.

We are based at Whitwell Creek on Rutland Water and we are the only group who paddle on the main open body of Rutland Water. Club paddles are every Sunday morning 10am – 12pm
(We meet about 9:30am at Whitwell Creek).

We use the sheltered Whitwell Creek bay area for beginners, training and less experience paddlers (and also solo paddling).

Before coming out onto the main area of Rutland Water we need you to demonstrate a wet exit capsize and re-entry. This is needed because we are a deep water paddling, self-rescuing club.

We use the sheltered Whitwell Creek bay area for beginners and less experience paddlers (and solo paddling).

If you are interested to learn more, please email us at [email protected] or see our website at

We are the only group who regularly paddle on the main body of Rutland Water. We also run paddling trips on rivers and the sea.

Taster session on heat wave Sunday.
Yesterday the latest group of potential new members enjoyed a dip in Whitwell Creek as part of a taster session when basic paddling and rescue skills are practiced.
I understand they all enjoyed themselves and succeeded in taking on new skills.
Thank you to Dave for leading and organizing the session.
