Match report from Ulverston rugby correspondent:
Ulverston hosted a friendly game against Kendal RUFC this Sunday hoping to strengthen a positive relationship between the two clubs.
Several Ulverston players also play Union during the closed season and helped the Kendal side with numbers during the game.
The Union lads new to Rugby league started tentatively mishandling the opening kickoff.
Ulverston scored immediately with a wonderful pass by Coby S to one of the new Ulvie lads Layton S scoring his first try for the club on the left wing. A missed conversion made it 4-0.
Our very own Mulleted maestro Arthur O responded for Kendal with a 40 yard dart through the middle scoring under the sticks. George W converted 4-6.
Instantly Ulvie responded with another try on the left wing to make it 8-6 to the home side.
Kendal's fullback Finn C found a gap in open play scoring from the halfway line with another try under the Ulvie sticks 8-12 following another George W conversion.
Ted's pinpoint kickoffs continued to back Kendal up on each kickoff and another new recruit Caleb S scored shortly afterwards 14-12 at the half after a conversion by Ted.
Not one to just rely on kicks, Ted also found a gap to open the scoring in the 2nd half missing the kick to make it 18-12.
Ulverston were next to score with Caleb S scoring again down the left wing, Ted finding his mojo slotted over the kick making it 24-12.
Kendal grit their teeth and won back possession with a well worked try following a break through by Freddie M for Arthur O to score from 5 yards out. George W kick made it 24-18 to the home side.
Ted responded with another try scoring under the sticks for an easy kick to make it 30-18.
Ulverston lost possession but fantastic defensive play kept the Kendal side from scoring for a period until the star of the 2nd half Jibola found a gap outside the Ulverston line and broke through.
Finn C Scoring another and catching the Ulverston defensive line off guard making it 30-24 after another George W the kick.
The following possession saw Arthur and Finley C find space down the right wing with Finley scoring the try to make it 30-30 with only a minute to play.
Ted found touch with his kick retaining possession only for Caleb S to complete his hat trick and leave the home side victorious 36-30.
A great spectacle for Rugby whichever code you favour.
Thanks to everyone in attendance and hopefully this fosters a positive relationship/partnership for all ages in the coming years.
