St Bees to Whitehaven.

Tuesday 25th August 2026 “It was definitely one of those borderline “do I or don’t I wear a drysuit?” kind of days…….sunny but not reliably warm. With a gentle easterly blowing, we launched close to high tide from the RNLI slipway and enjoyed a lovely calm trip around the headland, the sea green and clear. The cliffs were fairly devoid of birds, it being late August, but we made a brief stop at Fleswick Bay to admire the sandstone formations....

Walney Channel

Friday 14th August 2026 Roa Island to Jubilee Bridge and the Ferry Pitchings and back. HW Barrow was 9.3m at 1328 An early arrival by everybody at Roa Island allowed us to be on the water a little before our original midday launch target time. The rapidly rising Spring tide made for an easy launch off the little slipway at the end of Foulney Street....

Killington Lake – Tuesday Evening Paddle

Six paddlers met at Killington Lake for another of our fortnightly Tuesday evening sessions, making the most of a pleasant summer evening on the water. With a light breeze, slightly moody skies and plenty of daylight ahead, we launched at 6pm for a relaxed paddle around the lake before settling into the evening’s skills session. Sally Soady and Crayston Renner led the session, with a focus on towing techniques....

Brighouse Bay day 2

Sea kayak award Assessment day Dave Mc, Iain C, Amanda, Bryan. Miek H John S 19th July 'Some days on the water stay with you long after you’ve loaded the kayak back onto the roof bars. ' Last weekend at Brighouse Bay will be two of those. After spending the first day developing core skills through coaching, discussion and plenty of time on the water, the second day felt less like a conclusion and more like the natural continuation of the journey....

Brighouse Bay – day 1

Six of us woke to blue skies, warm weather and only a light hint of a breeze after a relaxing night at Solway View Campsite. This was to be day one of our Sea Kayak Award weekend - and though I was late to the ‘party’ I was made to feel very welcome. Having paddled with most of the LCC members previously I knew that we would be on for a great few days on the water whatever the outcome....

Morecambe Bay Crossing; Roa Island to Lancaster (Skerton Bridge)

9th July 2026 Pete Riley had an idea for a trip, planned it all out, and waited patiently for the necessary elements all to align. Critical factors were tide times, sea conditions and local weather. Nearly as important was the availability of an independent shuttle driver as the shuttle was a little over an hour - our gratitude to Linda Palmer for her kindness....
