PRE AND POST WORKOUT NUTRITIONšŸ„—

How you structure your pre and post workout nutrition can have a hugely positive impact on maximising your training performance and muscle growth.

It can be confusing to know what you should eat in these windows and how you should time these meals.

This post breaks down how you should approach these meals.

There’s no black or white, right or wrong way to approach this however, there’s some guideline you should to follow if you want to maximise your results.

Things will vary from person to person so don’t be afraid to experiment and see what works for you whilst implementing so of these strategiesšŸ‘Š

In my early days of trying to get in shape, I used to yo-yo between the extremes of going super low with calories; losing weight very quickly and then rebounding and eating loads of sh*t🄓

The thought of dieting seemed daunting because I thought the only way for me to lose weight was by slashing my calories and essentially, sacrificing my entire life.

This can feel extremely stressful. Especially when you have other stressors and demands going on in your life. It can feel out of reach.

The absolute best way to counteract this, in my opinion, is to flip your mindset…

Change the way you think about dieting from one of ā€œI want to lose weight as quickly as possible and i will have to suffer in order to do soā€

To

ā€œHow can I set up my daily eating habits in a way that is sustainable for me and allows me to make progress week after weekā€.

Losing weight fast is great, but often the results will only stick around for as long as it took to get them (sometimes even shorter).

When you focus on making a long term lifestyle change, rather than a short term sacrificial death diet, the results that you get will be far easier for you to sustain long term.

Try to establish what is the most amount of food you can eat whilst still losing weight.

This will make sticking to your diet 1000x times easier and when it comes to getting results, consistency really is kingšŸ‘‘

Wanna get in shape but feel too busy?šŸ¤”

Improving your physique is easy when it’s your focus and top of your priority list.

For most people it isn’t their main focus. They have a desire to look a certain way but also have a life and other priorities to think about.

This is why, for most people, they get really motivated for a few weeks and start making progress.

But then life happens and other things come up, causing them to go off track.

When you lose it, especially a few times, it’s hard to gather the momentum again.

Then it becomes easy to justify giving up because it isn’t a ā€œnecessityā€.

However, if it’s something that you think about and desire then it is important, and you deserve to be able to make progress towards it.

So, if you want to get in shape but you’re also a busy person here’s what you need to došŸ‘‡

šŸ‘‰Work out what’s the absolute minimum you need to do each week to make progress towards your goal.

Then make these absolute non- negotiables each week and make them fit in your life.

For example:
Go to the gym 3 times this week
Hit 8k steps every day
Prep meals 2 nights of the week

If you can’t stick to it, make the goal smaller.

Until you’ve got a ā€œbaselineā€ that you can easily do week in week outšŸ“ˆ

From here, you can gradually layer more things in.

Don’t make the mistake of going absolutely all in for a week and then completley fu***ng it off.

This will just make you resent the process.

Start small and build momentumāœŒļø

2019 vs 2022

It’s crazy that on the left I was actually doing way ā€œmoreā€ than I am now.

I was training 6x per week, 15-20k steps per day, dieting on a stupidly low amount of food🄓

It was fu***ng unpleasant and unsustainable. And I looked small as f**kšŸ˜‚

I was being inpatient and narcissistic wanting results right this second with no regard for my long term health and well- being.

This led to a lot of issues and I lost out on a good year's progress because of the consequences.

Fast forward 3 years later and I’ve got myself a coach and established some clear goals.

I’m training 4x per week, eating the most food I have in my entire life and have built sustainable habits that would literally be harder to not do every day.

I’m putting a brick in the building every day and making sustainable improvements.

The moral of the story here is that if you want to achieve a certain body composition, there’s no shortcuts.

You might be able to achieve something in the short term by crash dieting and excessive exercise, however, you can’t sustain it and it will catch up with you sooner or later.

Do your due diligence and build solid foundations that fit into your life: eating habits; exercise routine; steps; cardio; learning to enjoy yourself etcā€¦šŸ

It may feel slow and like nothing is happening at first but it will pay dividends in the futurešŸ¤

Tash has been a perfect client all the way through her journey

When she came to me she expressed not knowing where to start when it came to her training.

She didn’t know what she needed to do in order to get the outcome she wanted.

She was lacking the confidence to use certain machines in the gym which is frustrating and a reality for a lot of people.

Through working together, I gave her the clarity of a training programme which included movements and exercises which matched her skill level and where she was in her journey.

Everything was relevant to where she was at that moment in time.

We began by nailing the foundations in her training.

Tash picked these things up remarkably quickly, massive credit to her here.

After a few weeks she was doing her sessions on her own with confidence. She knew what she was doing when she got in there and she knew when she got in there and we had clear metrics in place to track progress.

This is the beauty of exercise selection that meets you where you’re at right now.

It makes sense and feels RIGHT from the get go.

If you can’t perform an exercise properly from day one, then most likely it shouldn’t be in your programme right now and you haven’t spent the time nailing the prerequisites.

Once Tash was super confident with the movements in her programme, we began adding in more complex ones which she could nail because we had spent the time building those foundations.

Does your training make sense to you right now?

It was a privilege to work with you Tash and to see your developmentāœŒļø

Not enough time to train?

ā€œI just don’t have the time to train or eat well with the demands of work and lifeā€

You’re absolutely not alone in feeling this way and it’s completely justified.

However, here’s the reasons you feel like this:

1ļøāƒ£You don’t have clarity on what it is you want to achieve thus are not valuing it enough to make time for it.
2ļøāƒ£You don’t know exactly what it is you need to do to get to where you want to be therefore you can’t plan sufficiently.
3ļøāƒ£Your training is excessive and not time-efficient. Training shouldn’t have to take up a lot of time if your sessions are efficient relative to your goals.
4ļøāƒ£You’re using your spare time to do things that make you feel less motivated: excessive social media, TV, gaming etc. (Not saying these things are bad, it’s context dependent).

If you say you value a certain outcome such as losing fat or gaining muscle, but also claim that you don’t have time to make progress on these things, then you have a problem that needs addressing.

Everyone has some amount of free time that they could utilize if they really wanted.
It may require some level of sacrifice but you could use this spare time to make some sort of a strategy:

1ļøāƒ£Get really clear on what it is you want to achieve and how this will add value to your life.
2ļøāƒ£Lay out what needs to be done for you to make progress towards this goal.
3ļøāƒ£Assess your week and work out what times you can train, how you can fit meals in etc.

All you have to do is execute then;)

Anyone can do this. I promise you, getting in better shape doesn’t have to be a massively time demanding thing.

Just a reminder that there’s a sick FREE training programme in my bio so go download it if you need something to followāœŒļø

CLIENT WINSšŸ¤

I wanted to showcase a few wins and feedback from some of my clients over the last few months.

There’s genuinely nothing better than hearing some of these things and seeing someone actually making progress in an area of their life.

The great thing is that some of these wins are from only a few weeks into their journey.

As cliche as it sounds, It’s not just the end result in the transformation that’s going to bring you joy. It’s also those little victories throughout your journey… seeing some clothing fit you for the first time; seeing something in the mirror that you’ve never seen before; someone noticing your changes or even just the feeling of working towards something that’s benefitting you.

Having experienced some of these things myself I know the value they can bring to a person’s life. Feeling as if you’re actually in control of what you’re doing and you’re breaking past all those limitations you thought you had.

Absolutely anyone can make a change, you just have to prove it once.

If this has compelled you to finally make the changes you’ve always wanted but have never got around to, drop me a DM and I’ll explain to you how the entire process works.

Happy New year everyone.

This has probably been the strangest year of my life.

But, it has left me with a valuable revelation- that my passion lies with coaching and helping others achieve change in their life through the means of exercise (and occasionally getting absolutely steaming).

I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue doing this in 2022 and take it to a new level.

I wish everyone a prosperous and successful New yearāœŒļø
