Pennsic Dance

Pennsic Dance This is the place to learn more about European Dance at Pennsic. Check back regularly for schedule updates, pictures, and other information.

The Pennsic War is an annual event in Slippery Rock, PA hosted by the Society for Creative Anachronism. Among the wide variety of activities available at the war is European Dance. Over the course of the war there will be dozens of classes covering dance styles from Italy to England, from the early 15th century through the 16th century and beyond. Nearly every evening will provide dance revels and

parties late into the night. Come join us for the festivities!

Successful scheduling! Emails have gone out to all the instructors. Of course there will always be some issues, but this should be close to the final version.

Please submit classes for Euro dance. Our deadline to get classes into official guide is Monday May 18.

Note that for some instructors, classes are not showing up in Thing. This is due to a glitch. Please send Patches (Sonya Gross) a note when you submit your classes.

We had a good response for the dance challenge. Thank you!

We have only one class submitted for the lunch and learn (sheet music demystified for dancers). Are there other lunch and learn classes people want?

Yay dancing!

Dance class request 2
Greetings dancers and musicians,

We had a great new series of classes last year that were lunch and learn classes. They were super popular and informative. I am looking for people to lead new ones.

I have one new topic already:
Sheet music demystified for dancers - Are you a dance teacher who hesitates to use live music because you don’t know how to communicate with musicians?

Please suggest topics and say if you are willing to teach the class.

Dance class request 1
Some background: Atlantia has a dance academe, L'Academie Atlantienne de la Danse, and the Chancelier, Lady Brigida, has issued a challenge for all Atlantian dancers to learn 89 dances in the dance book from Isenfir (one of our dance groups.)

In discussing with the new deputy dean, Lady Ariana (Melanie Treeson), we thought it was a fun opportunity for some different classes at Pennsic. We thought we could get instructors to teach some of the dances that aren’t commonly taught at Pennsic.

Lady Ariana went through the dance booklet (link in first comments) from Isenfir and marked dances as:

Never - It has not been taught in the last 3 or so years
Occasional – Not taught regularly, but has been taught at least once in the last few years
Always – just what it says, this dance is always covered by a class or a ball in the last few years.

My request: I am looking for instructors to teach the never and occasional classes on the spreadsheet here:

The deadline for submitting classes so that they will definitely (or as definitely as I can make it) be in the book is May 18.

Yay dancing!

I would like to give a huge thank you to Lady Mirabella Walmesley of Grimsby ( Gretsinger) for her work the last 2 years as Deputy Dean of Euro Dance. She was instrumental in making dance happen at the tent. She headed up the ball selection committee and did so many small jobs at Pennsic. I am very grateful for her assistance.

The Deputy Dean for this year is Lady Ariana de Gallo (Melanie Treeson) I am looking forward to working with her.

Musicians!

A reminder that the Pennsic Pile is available for download.

The Pennsic Pile 51A is a collection of 130 pages of sheet music for European dances. A huge thank to Master Albrecht Catsprey for editing the current version. And a thank you to all the arrangers and proof readers that volunteered their time in this project!

The Pile will be the source of European dance music for Pennsic 53.

This is the same version that was used for Pennsic 52.
