While hunting in Moraine State Park, a local hunter was surprised to find he had taken down the largest black bear in Pennsylvania this season at more than 700 pounds.

The Pennsylvania Game Commission says less than 1% of black bears harvested in the state are as large as this one, and the average weight for a full-grown black bear ranges from 250 to 500 pounds.

Currently, the statewide bear harvest stands at 2,356 and the 717-pound Butler County bear is the largest so far.
