Let's hear it for our August Member of the Month - Laurie Stevens!
Get to know Laurie:
1. What is your favorite go-to workout?
A Sweat Club HYROX class with my friends and a short run either after or before
2. What is your biggest fitness accomplishment?
Getting a top five female finish in the Georgia Jewel 50-mile trail race (2022).
Fast forward four years, and I'm proud that strength and hybrid training now have become such a big part of my life. I'm thankful for a healthy and strong body that allows me to compete in Hyrox races and set big goals.
3. What do you love most about Sweat Club?
I love that I found a place where I can be wrecked after a workout, challenged mentally and physically, and given an opportunity to be competitive and grow as a person. However, suffering with friends is what brings me back day after day. I've never been part of a gym family until now, and that, without a doubt, is the most special part of Sweat Club. It's a gym of overachievers in the best way possible. :) I am so grateful for the friends I have made at Sweat Club - we encourage and push each other, work hard but laugh harder, and genuinely want the best for each other in life and at the gym.
4. What is your favorite pre-race/workout snack?
Toasted sourdough with peanut butter, banana and honey
5. Cardio, Strength or HIIT?
Cardio with strength
6. 100 Burpees or going to the dentist?
100 burpees
7. What one piece of advice would you give to someone who is just starting out on their fitness journey?
Just start. Don't let fear/intimidation/comparison/whatever it is (we've all felt it at some point) stop you from walking through that front door or lacing up your shoes. Time is going to pass anyway; might as well spend today doing something you'll be proud of when you look back in six months.
8. Tell me one fun non-fitness fact about yourself.
I love national parks and have a national park passport that I get stamped every time I visit one.
