Last Saturday’s hike up Ben Vorlich and Stùc a’ Chroin was epic. We had fun, but so much more happens when you climb a mountain.

People call it mountain therapy, climatotherapy, or ecotherapy — whether it’s the biological effects of high-altitude air or the psychological reset that comes from being immersed in nature.

• Altitude adaptation can improve cardiovascular efficiency and stimulate red blood cell production.
• Nature immersion (Shinrin-Yoku / forest bathing) is linked to lower stress and improved wellbeing.
• Trees and mountain plants release phytoncides, compounds that may help support immune function.
• The “awe effect” of standing on a summit can quiet mental noise and bring clarity and gratitude.
• Cleaner mountain air means fewer pollutants, allergens, and a freshness you genuinely feel.

And honestly, Ben Vorlich and Stùc a’ Chroin delivered all of it. A brilliant hill with that deceptive false summit… then suddenly the real summit appears — absolutely massive. Moderate to difficult going, but the reward is huge. The kind of day that resets your brain completely.

Gym day out 🏔️

Can’t wait for the next one in June — the 10-mile Millport loop on June 28th.

🌟 100 Miles in May Challenge 🌟

Get moving this May and challenge yourself to stay consistent, active, and motivated 💪

🚶‍♂️🏃‍♀️🚴‍♂️ The Goal
Complete 100 miles in May — walk, jog, run, or cycle.

Equivalents:
• 100 miles (walk/run)
• 400 miles (cycling 🚴‍♂️)
• Or a combination of both

📏 How to Track Combined Miles
To keep things fair:

👉 1 mile run/walk = 4 miles cycling

Examples:
• 50 miles run + 200 miles cycling = 100 miles total ✅
• 25 miles run + 300 miles cycling = 100 miles total ✅
• 100 miles cycling only = 25 miles towards goal

• Join this club and log your activities
• Mix running, walking, and cycling however you like
• Go solo, bring a friend, or team up 👥

📊 What Counts Towards Your Total?

To keep things fair and consistent in Strava:

✅ Counts:
• Walks (recorded as an activity)
• Runs / jogs
• Cycling rides
• Any activity recorded and saved on Strava

❌ Does NOT count:
• General daily steps (walking around at work, home, errands)
• Steps from your phone or watch unless recorded as a specific activity

❓ Can I use my general daily steps?
No — only tracked activities count.

You must start and save an activity (walk, run, or ride) for it to be included in your total.

Time for a bit of glory for our coaches!

Caroline entered the Kilmarnock Strong Woman contest and came away with an incredible 2nd place — Kilmarnock’s Strongest Beginner! What an amazing achievement for her first-ever competition 💪

And Maggie completed the London Marathon last weekend — her second marathon ever, with a 25-year gap between runs! An outstanding display of determination and resilience 🏃‍♀️

Congratulations to both of you.
We believed we could, and we did.

So can you!
