FC U13 Girls Reds 1 - 3 Redcar Athletic
FC U13 Girls Reds lose out to a strong Redcar Athletic team in the first game of the season.
FC, playing in the TJFA Division One following promotion, knew the opposition would be strong going into the game.
Playing with the wind in the first half, FC quickly got into their passing game but couldnβt quite manage a clear shot on target with the Redcar defence and keeper blocking several shots.
Redcar themselves were looking to counter FC with their pacy wingers, but FCβs defenders Poppy and Rosie Mc held firm.
Midway through the first half, Redcar broke the deadlock. After being awarded a free kick, Macie made a good save from the initial shot with the Redcar attacker first to react to tap home.
FC reacted well, with Lucy H, Rosie O and Halle all making chances but the ball didnβt fall in favour of the FC attackers. FCβs best chance fell to Arwen, who managed break through the Redcar defence however the Redcar keeper made a great block to deny the FC girls a deserved equaliser.
Moments after, FC were caught on the break following a good passing moving by Redcar in midfield, which released the winger who then squared for the forward to pass into the bottom corner to make it 0-2 at half-time.
FC now playing against the wind, continued to push for a goal their performance deserved, and shortly after the break Arwenβs perseverance paid off, as she was able to win the ball back inside the box and fire into the net to make it 1-2.
With the game becoming more and more end-to-end, FCβs Rosie O, who was having a great game on the wing both defending and attacking, was causing the Redcar defence issues with her pace fired a shot just wide.
Redcar weβre still threatening to add to their tally but found Macie in form, making a number of good saves. Redcar did add a third goal, with a wind-assisted corner that evaded all to creep in at the back post.
FC pushed to get another goal but ran out of time and ultimately falling to defeat.
A well contested first game from both teams, with all the FC girls putting in a great performance with Rosie O being awarded player of the match following a fantastic individual performance.
