In this video I want to talk a little about the famous Portuguese boardwalks.
If you are planning to ride the EuroVelo 1 route or the Coastal Camino de Santiago route in Portugal, you are going to come across them. At the entry point of every boardwalk you may find signs that indicate if cycling is allowed on them or not, but not all boardwalks have such signs. Boardwalks often have "side entrances" along their length and often these side entrances have no signs. In some cases boardwalks may have signs at one end of the boardwalk, but not at the other, so it depends on the direction you are taking.
So, I just wanted to highlight in this video that the coast of Portugal has a lot of these boardwalks and they are really useful. There are some boardwalks that have bridges over small lakes or rivers that, without taking the boardwalk to cross over them, the detour on normal roads is sometimes several kilometres longer.
My recommendation is to use good sense. As the saying goes, where there is a sign, there is history, so regardless if the sign tells you that you can or cannot ride your bicycle on them, if you decide to ride on a boardwalk please be careful and respectful. They are used by pedestrians of all walks of life (no pun intended), such as seniors and children, as well as dogs.

On the 1st of June 2026, I published a "Follow me" drone video on the Ecovia Litoral near Faro, Portugal.
That was the "clean" video, with some editing and music. What you didn't see was what happened before... As I raised the drone, to start recording the video another cyclist passed by me and the drone locked on him as a moving target and started to follow him, instead of me, with me riding behind the flying drone trying to catch it... πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
After a few attempts to catch the drone mid-flight, I came to the conclusion that the only way to make the drone stop was to position myself between the cyclist and the drone, so the drone would
lock on me and let the other cyclist move away.
Thankfully, that worked! πŸ˜†
I could have deleted the footage, but I thought that was incredibly funny and would make a nice addition to the bloopers collectionπŸ˜†.
Ironically, just before I decided to fly the drone, I recorded a short video (reel) and in that video I mentioned how alone I was πŸ˜†.
Lesson learned!
