I'm Master at Arms Mark Davies, & I'm the Chief Instructor at 'the Best defence'. I was the first professional Martial Arts instructor in Angus, & 'the BEST defence' was the first full time Martial Arts centre in Angus. My goal is to offer the most experienced & high quality Martial Arts training possible. I started my Martial Arts journey originally back in 1980 as a child who was being badly bullied, where I started off with Karate & Kung Fu, before moving over to what would become my 'mother art' of ITF TaeKwon-Do in 1983. I passed my first Black Belt & started on my path as an instructor in 1987, & I have been teaching ever since, going full time in 2001. Martial Arts were always an obsession for me (I have a form of high functioning autism, so when I get 'into' something I REALLY get into it, lol), & I've been lucky over the years to be able to travel & train under some of the worlds best Masters & Instructors, & I have earned Black Belts & Instructors credentials in a wide variety of Martial Arts. I am also the only Combat Technologies Instructor in Europe under the legendary Master at Arms James A Keating in the USA. At 'the BEST defence all of my classes are age specific, & our syllabuses are all designed around those different age groups; I was the first Instructor in Angus to split everything into age specific programmes (my Little Ninjas programme was the first of its kind in Angus), so we have NinjaSkool for 4 - 7's, Juniors classes for 7+, & Adults & teens.....well they're for adults & teens, lol. Another thing that makes us unique is that we specialise in 'Reality based self defence' rather than 'sport' or 'art'. Most people join a Martial Art looking for self defence training not realising that most classes either teach a sport or 'art' & just pay lip service to actual self defence; we don't. I was the technical director for self defence training for the UK TaeKwon-Do Federation, & I am currently the Technical committee director for self defence training for ITF HQ Europe. I teach seminars on combatives & applied self defence internationally, & I have had the privilige of being the Close Combat Instructor with an element of UK Special Forces for many years. I offer you 40 years of Martial Arts experience, & an education in a fascinating variety of Martial Arts. Over the years we have enhanced many peoples lives, & have taught many children things that have stuck with them through to adulthood. I teach the bullied how NOT be victims of bullying, & I also help children to learn NOT to unknowingly be bullies. We help build confidence & self esteem, & unmatched personal safety & self defence skills; & we are a friendly family oriented community too.
