Cronulla Sharks edged the New Zealand Warriors 10-8 in a gritty, wet-weather contest at Go Media Stadium. Queensland star Tino Fa'asuamaleaui has been dealt a heartbreaking blow with the passing of his father, Fereti, after a second battle with cancer.

Maroons coach Billy Slater confirmed the news, with Fa’asuamaleaui remaining with his family instead of travelling to Melbourne. Despite the tragedy, the Gold Coast prop has expressed a desire to play in Origin II and honour his father, whom he described as his lifelong inspiration and hero. Queensland officials have made it clear he will be given all the time he needs with his family before any decision is made on his availability.

Mason Barber has officially signed a three-year deal with the Perth Bears from 2027, becoming one of the club’s key foundation recruits. The highly rated 20-year-old, an Australian Schoolboys representative and product of Keebra Park, joins from the North Queensland Cowboys system. Able to play fullback or centre, Barber is regarded as one of rugby league’s brightest young talents, with Bears coach Mal Meninga backing him to become a long-term cornerstone of the club’s future.

AJ Gudgeon has become the first North Sydney Bears player to secure a train-and-trial deal with the Perth Bears. The Perth-born outside back has impressed in a standout 2026 season, earning the attention of coach Mal Meninga.
