The Amaru Day Diamond Classic is an annual celebration hosted by the Melbourne Softball Association at Fawkner Park to honor the legacy of Layne Amaru.

The 2026 event will take place on Sunday, July 26, 2026, featuring a packed schedule of games, skill competitions, and an All-Stars match.

Date: Sunday, July 26, 2026

Location: Fawkner Park (Diamond 2), South Yarra

Honoree: Layne Amaru (1941–2010), a remarkable administrator, coach, and service award recipient who dedicated her life to softball in Melbourne.

Program & FestivitiesMorning Games: Metro League B Division games typically kick off the morning sessions.

Skill Competitions: Interactive games for players and attendees.

Free Sausage Sizzle: Usually held midday for players and spectators to enjoy.

Diamond Classic Game: The main showcase match where players (often organized into teams like All-Stars Red and All-Stars Blue) face off in a highly anticipated, celebratory environment.

NADIOC EVENT

A Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony will be conducted by a Wurundjeri Elder; and a guest speaker by a community member which will
commence at 12pm and conclude at 12:30pm.
The event is open to be attended by all members of our softball community, their families, friends and the wider general public.

On the day, all softball community members are able to wear and play in items that show support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

To be held on the grass area in front of the clubrooms.

B DIVISION GAMES
COMMENCE AT 10:15AM AND WILL END AT 11:30AM

All other games on the day will be played at their usual timeslots at 1pm and 3pm.

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Elaine Duyvestyn OAM.

Elaine passed away last night and is finally at peace.

Elaine was a stalwart in Melbourne Softball and Softball at large.

Elaine was a devoted wife, a loving mother, a treasured Nana, a daughter, and a loyal friend. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness, strength, wisdom, and unconditional love.

She was the heart of Duyvestyn family, always putting others before herself and bringing people together with her love and generosity. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in our hearts forever.
