Why is acceleration so important for game speed? 👇

In most sports, athletes rarely reach top speed… it’s the first 5–20 metres that matter most.

That’s the difference between:
✔️ Winning a loose ball
✔️ Beating an opponent off the mark
✔️ Creating space when it counts

Acceleration comes down to how well an athlete can produce force into the ground—this is where lower body strength and power play a huge role.

In our High Performance Screening sessions, we assess exactly that.

Through sprint testing, jumps, and movement analysis, we can identify:
• How effectively an athlete accelerates
• Where they may be losing speed
• What they need to improve to become faster and more explosive

This gives athletes clear direction—not just to train harder, but to train smarter.

We’re excited to introduce our High Performance Screening Sessions at Thrive Performance — designed to give young athletes real insight into their performance and development.

The reality is…
Most athletes are training hard, playing multiple sports, and doing everything they can to improve…

But they don’t actually know what’s holding them back.

That’s where this session comes in.

During our screening, we assess key areas that directly impact performance:

✔ 20m Sprint – to measure acceleration and speed
✔ Squat Jump & Counter Movement Jump – to assess power and explosiveness
✔ Depth Drop – reactive strength and stiffness

🌟 A Huge Congratulations to Sophia! 🌟

We’re incredibly proud to share that Sophia has been selected in the Women’s ACT Brumbies Training Squad — an outstanding achievement and a true reflection of her hard work and dedication 👏

Sophia has been part of the Thrive family for a long time. After taking the opportunity to attend boarding school, she continued to chase her goals — eventually making the big move to Canberra to compete at a higher level in rugby. That takes courage, commitment, and belief.

Even during the Christmas holidays, Sophia was back training with us — focused on her conditioning and sharpening her speed. That’s the mindset that separates good athletes from great ones.

For parents, this is a perfect example of what consistent training, the right environment, and strong support can do for a young athlete. Progress doesn’t happen overnight — but with dedication like Sophia’s, big opportunities follow.
