First of all…I love the shakes, it makes me feel like…something is happening 😂

Second of all…it doesn’t ALWAYS indicate a weakness! But it can. So if you are returning from an injury this becomes important because you may need to explore the following things:

⭐️Strength/Endurance Limitations- your muscles maybe working near its current capacity and may not be able to maintain steady force
⭐️Motor Control- Your nervous system might be having trouble coordinating the movement
⭐️Fatigue3- a muscle that was initially stable may start shaking as it becomes fatigued
⭐️Stabilization Demands- Smaller stabilizing muscles may shake when they are controlling a joint in a position they haven’t seen in a while

Pushing through the shakes isn’t always a good thing, especially for those recovering, so make sure post injury that you are being monitored by a professional!

It’s the start of the season- so it’s when I start complaining (I promise there are aspects of competitive dance I love 🙃)

However , at some point, I feel like we have gotten off track. The focus has turned to…

Another trophy
Another banner
Another title
Another “Top 10” placement

We started using the size of a dancer’s trophy collection as a measure of their success. Ewww.
🤢
A trophy can tell you what happened on one stage on ONE day. It tells you very little about the dancer.

Sometimes, a dancer can have an entire room full of trophies while still being physically unprepared for the demands being placed on their body (or more importantly lack of mental or emotional well being).

That should concern us more than an empty trophy shelf.
🏆
Our goal shouldn’t be to create dancers who are really good at winning trophies.

Our goal should be to create dancers who are stronger, smarter, healthier, more capable humans BECAUSE they danced.
🩵
So this is your reminder for the season…compete, take the pictures, celebrate the win, put the trophy on the shelf. But also prioritize the things that matter: connection, safety, health, growth, etc.
