This year marks the 55th anniversary of the historic Ping Pong Diplomacy trip, which our own Judy Hoarfrost took part in!

Inspired by Judy’s role in the original journey, Burke and nine PNW college students were invited by the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF) to travel throughout China, connecting with local communities and visiting historic landmarks in commemoration of the legendary event.

Their journey took them through Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Shanghai, and Ningxia.

We’re incredibly grateful to CUSEF and for this unforgettable opportunity, and for the care, generosity, and hospitality shown to our students! 非常感谢您的盛情款待。

Friendship first, competition second! 🇺🇸🇨🇳

Pastor Leo Keelan serves as a chaplain for firefighters, police officers, and other first responders in our area. When the people we rely on in emergencies need support themselves, he’s the one they call—24/7.

He provides this care full-time and depends on fundraising to continue offering these vital services to our community.

Paddle Palace Club is proud to donate our time and space this Saturday evening to support Pastor Keelan and his mission. We invite you to join us for this special event and/or consider making a donation.

Thank you for helping us support someone who is always there for those who serve us.

Aloha,
Burke Walls

🏓 Paddle Palace Club Weekly Update (3/30–4/5)

🔥 Highlights
• What a week at the Paddle Palace! Between 6pm last Sunday and 3pm Monday, our old floor was completely removed and replaced with a beautiful new one—installed entirely by volunteer members. The new floor looks and feels amazing and gives the club a whole new vibe 😊

• Huge props to our volunteer army—truly second to none. We had around 20–25 people working at any given time, putting in serious effort. And it has to be said: the boomers showed up strong and outworked many a young pup 💪 A massive thank you to everyone who helped. As a token of appreciation, April dues are waived for all volunteers.

• Special recognition to Jack Elder, founder of Oregon Sports Action, who played a key role in helping PPC secure funding for the new floor. His nonprofit advocates for expanding opportunities and impact for Olympic and Paralympic sports in Oregon.

On Saturday, Jack stopped by to see the new floor—and got a surprise. We presented him with a National Award of Excellence from the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Association in recognition of his organization’s impact in Oregon and beyond. We even had three former Olympians in attendance for the moment—pretty special!

• Our next tournament is live on OmniPong.com:
– May 2: Two-person team event
– May 3: Large round robin tournament

Dawin Castro has been a valued member of the club for many years. Two weeks ago, he experienced the heartbreaking loss of his daughter, Darliz, to adrenal carcinoma, a rare form of cancer. The Castro family is incredibly close-knit—they even share a family membership that includes a nephew. They continue to support one another with strength and unity, regularly attending tournaments to cheer on Dawin, Darwin Antonio, and their cousin Brando.

Please consider supporting the family during this difficult time through their GoFundMe:
