Lake Minnetonka Sailing School Igniting a Passion for the Lifetime Sport of Sailing These courses focus on drills necessary to move confidently into racing.

The Recreational Summer Camp sessions serve as the foundation of our program by introducing students to sailing in an encouraging, fun, social, and safe environment. For sailors who choose to move forward with their sailing development, we offer Learn-to-Race sessions in Optimist and 420s. Sailors ready to step up to our advanced levels of sailboat racing then join one or more of our Advanced Race

Teams - Optimist, 420, and Laser. These teams train for 8 weeks at Lighthouse Island and compete in local, regional, and national regattas, with support from coaches and parents.

Adults, are you looking to learn something new, enjoy the best of what Minnesota has to offer on the water, and spend time with friends or make new ones? We have openings in our Women on the Water and Adult Sailing Keelboat classes all season!

If you’re ready to take the leap to start your summer off with evenings on the lake, we even have openings in our Thursday Women on the Water class that begins TOMORROW evening (June 4)!

⛵️ Coming summer 2026, LMSS is excited to offer Melges 15 group training for the first time ever!

⛵️ Training will take place every Monday evening during the MYC M15 Champ Series, before and between races, and is designed to help teams prepare, perform, and learn in a focused and fun environment.

🗓️ MYC M15 Championship Series Race Schedule: 6:15pm, Monday evenings. June 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, July 6, 13, 20, August 3.

⛵️ The C420 & ILCA Race Team is the most advanced youth program in the Minnetonka Race Team progression.

⛵️ It is the next step for 420 Learn to Race sailors, Opti Race Team sailors, X Boat Race Team sailors, and experienced middle/high school sailors.

⛵️ This team is for students aged 12-18 who either have learn to race experience and have been recommended by their coach, or those who are returning, advanced racers.

⭐️ Class Feature - X-Boat Race Team ⭐️

⛵️ The X-boat is the next step for Opti Intermediate/Advanced sailors. Sailors must have prior sailing and racing experience to be a part of this race team.

⛵️ At X-Boat practices, sailors will learn how to effectively communicate with their crew, strengthen their knowledge of proper rigging and tuning techniques, and develop their racing tactics/strategy.

⭐️ Class Feature - Opti Race Team ⭐️

⛵️ The Optimist Race Team is the first step in the Minnetonka Race Team progression, and the next step for Opti Learn to Race sailors ages 8 – 15.

⛵️ Sailors will be split into Development Team and Championship (RWB) Team members at the discretion of the Head Coach and Race Director at the beginning of the new season. Development and Champ Team sailors will work together often, but will be split at practices according to these skill groups for more focussed small team training.

🗓️ Session 1: June 8-July 10, Session 2: July 13-August 7, Half Day, Mornings.
