Inner Wild Nutrition

Inner Wild Nutrition Welcome to Inner Wild Nutrition! My name is Uriell and I am a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and I help cyclists, runners, and skiers know what to eat.

Uriell is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist and owner of Whole Life Breck. She studied at Bastyr University in Seattle and then completed her dietetic internship with Utah State University during which she worked in a variety of clinical, community and food service nutrition settings throughout Colorado. Uriell’s passion for nutrition began while growing up on her family’s organic farm in Vermon

t. Upon moving to Breckenridge in 2007 she found that nutrition and questions regarding food and health were a common topic of conversation among friends and fellow athletes and she wanted to find a way to be able to answer those questions. Today, Uriell’s nutrition practice focuses on incorporating whole foods nutrition with sustainable goals that will help you achieve whole body health and wellness for a lifetime. Specialties include weight loss, sports and performance nutrition and chronic disease prevention or management. Uriell’s favorite part of her job is that her “work” is as much a part of her personal life as it is her professional life. Beyond Whole Life Breck, she can be found working at Whole Foods in Frisco, experimenting with new recipes in her kitchen, or outside either trail running, split boarding or training for her upcoming mountain bike race season. Uriell welcomes all ages and is open to discuss any nutritional interests you may have.

“I feel like I’m not doing anything, so why should I be eating?” - well, you just did a LOT and your body is still working to recover & make you stronger from those efforts, so expect to be more hungry (and plan to eat more!) the next day after your long weekend efforts, for multiple days after ultras or stage races or after your big training block - we don’t just reset every night!

I see you - grabbing a handful of crackers or some other totally useless snack every time you walk through the kitchen or take a break from your computer…why not just take some extra time to make it into a real snack!?

I promise you, you’ll feel 100% more satisfied!

Cravings are a sign that something is missing - when you add on being a cyclist or runner to that, they’re often a sign from your body that you didn’t give it what it needed when it needed it, so now it’s throwing out ALL the cravings

The most impactful thing that you can do to get rid of cravings for sweets is to make sure you’re eating the carbohydrates you need pre, during, and post workout - no more needing to rely on willpower to avoid your cravings 🎉

More is not always better

Instead, aim to replace about 50% of what you burn on an hourly basis. And know, if you are doing something different than this that works for you, that may also be ok - nutrition is very much a game of “it depends”, so use this info wisely!

Get out there, eat foods you’re excited about and fuel your hearts out!! 🫶

But seriously, what are you packing for the weekend?

I’m gonna go ahead and guess that you’re not doing the same exact training every single day - so why would you eat the same thing every single day?

Adjusting WHAT you eat and WHEN you eat based on what you’ve just done or what you’re about to do is where the magic happens - truly

This is exactly what we help all of our athletes figure out - instead of just eating “healthy foods” on repeat and calling it good, they’re eating based on what their body needs in the moment.

If you eat healthy, but you have no idea how to time your intake around your training, let’s figure out if we can help with that!

Are you under-fueling your long sessions?

Most people guess. Your carb needs actually change based on how long you’re training — and getting it wrong can cost you energy late in the effort.

There is no inherently better combo here - it all depends on YOU and your preferences, what your gut can tolerate, texture differences, your carrying + packing system and the literal skill of fueling that will dictate what you fuel with

There’s no hierarchy that tells us which one of these combinations is better because that depends on so many factors…

It depends on the type of effort, what your gut can tolerate, what you want to consume, and quite honestly, your fueling skills

Which one are you picking? Or what combination would you add to this! Comment below!
