Progress update! Getting so close now.

This Sunday, over 120 cars are heading to Aorangi Stadium for the Stadium Hard Park, and everyone is welcome. 🚗

Timaru Automotive Culture (TAC) and Out Of The Garage Onto The Road have teamed up for the first time to run the event, with all proceeds supporting the Aorangi Stadium redevelopment.

“Aorangi Stadium has been an amazing venue for car events for many years, so we thought what better opportunity for the car enthusiast community to give back and support the redevelopment,” says Jessica Curr of Out of the Garage and Onto the Road.

Both groups already run regular fundraisers, including poker runs and hard parks for Timaru South School, and Friday night meets that have raised money for Women’s Refuge and the Cancer Society.

This is the first time they’ve brought their two communities together on one event.

Local businesses have got behind the day too, with South Canterbury Roofing coming on board as major sponsor.

On the day:

• Over 120 cars on display
• Sausage sizzle and food stalls
• Raffle to win a ride in one of three drift cars
• One entrant will win a $500 voucher from Premier Powder Coating
• The Rock Roadies will be there supporting the event

It’s a family friendly day and a chance to get old school car culture thriving in Timaru again.

$1.7 million!!!

Thanks to Ahu Community Trust of Mid & South Canterbury for their generous contribution of $150,000. This takes us to over 70% of the way to our fundraising target.

"There is no doubting the massive impact the stadium redevelopment has for Timaru and the wider region. When you visit and see the numbers of young people already taking part in sport at the complex it's impressive, and with the new development that will just grow," says Di Hay, Chair of Ahu Community Trust.

"Ahu is proud to support this initiative, as projects focusing on young people have been identified as one of our priority areas. Giving young people a fantastic sporting facility will be a game changer for many. It's time off screens, connecting and being active, which is something we want to nurture.

"Then imagine the further impact that will be made for other age groups who are also active, plus the potential to attract sports tournaments and other events that boost the visitor economy. It's a brilliant facility and we commend the team behind the project for bringing it to life."

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at the Aorangi Stadium redevelopment.

We recently had the chance to walk through the site and see the progress being made, so we thought we’d take you along for a look.

It’s great to see the plans becoming a reality and get a sense of what this facility will offer sport, events and the wider South Canterbury community once complete.
