SOUTH CANTERBURY CRICKET AWARDS FOR 2025-26 SEASON

It is our pleasure to announce the various award winners for the 2025-26 cricket season.

While they are a bit late it will be a good time to remember the season when it was a bit warmer and to recognise many individual and team performances.

Congratulations to all the winners and a special mention to Sam Carlaw who has had a big year and gains deserved recognition from his peers too.

In the last couple of weeks some special awards were bestowed on Sophie Kelly and Hannah Kidd at the Canterbury Cricket and Christchurch Metro Cricket Awards.

Sophie was named in the Premier Women's Team of the Year, last week at the Christchurch Metro cricket awards! Sophie was the only player currently at school to be named in the team and finished the season as the 4th highest run scorer for the whole competition.

Hannah at the Canterbury Cricket Awards was awarded two trophies;

U17 Batter of the Year ๐Ÿ
U17 Playersโ€™ Player of the Year๐Ÿ

These were awesome achievement for both girls who showed that a bit of hard work and dedication can lead much further. Hannah should also be proud that her team mates obviously enjoy her company, not just for scoring all their runs with the player's player award.

Well done to Sophie and Hannah - you have done yourselves, your family, your club and our district proud and we congratulate you enthusiastically and look forward to you both taking even bigger steps next season.

It was great to see NZ Cricket recognizing a couple of long serving officials from South Canterbury Cricket for their long service.

Umpire Les Elliott was awarded a certificate for 30 years service (he has done 31 now) and super scorer Steph Drake was awarded a 20 years service certificate.

Great work the both of you, our game would really battle without umpires and Scorers, and it is great you have been doing this for so long and we certainly appreciate your service.

Great to see our Game Development Officer Taine Cordell-Hull show his diversity in sport as he arrives in Sri Lanka with the NZ Rugby U85kg team for a test series of matches.

Of note is that Sri Lanka is one of Asiaโ€™s oldest rugby-playing nations, with a tradition dating back to 1879. The sport attracts large crowds for school and club matches, often pulling in 40,000 to 50,000 spectators for major games.

All the best Taine Cordell-Hull I'm sure you will have plenty of supporters from back home amongst the cricket community.
