Warning: Late Post, Long Story!!

From the Farm to University of Canterbury Lecturer Hall, our story of grit and determination!!

Toma was a primary school teacher in Fiji before he moved to South Canterbury to work on a dairy farm in Temuka. At that same time our rugby club first started and the boys were gathering twice a week to play touch as we were looking for a tournament to play in. It was post covid so travelling and hosting events was abit slow and scarce.

However, our boys insisted that we travell to Wellington and play in the Bula 7s 2022 as it was the only tournament that year.

We took on the seasoned 7s teams and big guns like Hawkes Bay, Auckland, and Gisborne. We made it all the way to the Main Quarterfinals against the NZ 7s Development team, Matakesi.

Toma was the man who led us. He was our Captain and showed incredible leadership and fierce determination in our first-ever tournament. Since then, he transitioned slowly from playing in the field to the front office as he became our Club Secretary and remains a massive part of our family - playing rugby and doing administrative duties aswell.

True success requires grit and Toma is the perfect example of that as he moved to Christchurch two years ago to chase a dream.

Now, he has graduated from the University of Canterbury with a Diploma in Criminal Law. Even better, he is already pursuing his Bachelor’s degree.

The same commitment and heart he showed leading our troops on the rugby field, he is now showing in the lecture halls. However, he hasn't done it alone, though as he is well supported up in Christchurch by his older brother Mo and our club Finance Administrator, Rob Loiti. Having that strong family and club backing behind him means everything.

We know this is just the beginning of many big academic milestones for him and as a club, we are bursting with pride. We are so incredibly grateful for everything you do and everything you are, Toma.
