Fraser Park

Fraser Park Timaru's landmark multi-purpose sports facility. The game and our region’s future are set to change. Please visit Fraserpark.co.nz today to find out more.

After 20 years as Alpine Energy Stadium and a pure rugby venue, Fraser Park will again be the name of this landmark sports facility. But, this time round, it will be home to a variety of sporting codes. The redevelopment of Fraser Park is set to cost $7.5 million. While fundraising is well advanced, there is still a final sprint to the finish line where we need community support.

The Battle of the Landing, Gallipoli 25th of April 1915.
Tomorrow we have a small ceremony at the Memorial Gates of Fraser Park at 12.45pm to remember those of the rugby family that gave their lives in the conflicts of the 20th Century.

This weekend marks one year on from the official opening of Fraser Park.
We continue to be very proud to have delivered this fantastic facility to South Canterbury, and we are extremely grateful to you our supporters. This new facility has seen a mix of sporting activity, cultural events, conferences, and meetings and we have welcomed many people from South Canterbury and further afield. Fraser Park is the talk of the Town and is most definitely the place to be!
We are currently working on the website to make it easier to book spaces, and we have a local company assisting with professional footage that will provide great promotion not only of our Facility but of South Canterbury.
On the financial front we continue to look for sponsors and supporters to assist us with the final invoices for the build (Bronze, Silver, Gold etc) and we have two Blade signs left to sell. Please if you have any ideas of businesses that could help, contact Phillipa or Tim.
Now…. mark your diary for 22 February 2026. We have a significant event planned but are unable to release any information until late November. All we can say at this stage is keep your afternoon free for a ticketed event that the whole Family will enjoy.
Again we thank you most sincerely for your support

On this day 75 years ago the Lachie Grant led South Canterbury side defeated Wairarapa at Masterton's Solway Showgrounds by 17-14 to win the Ranfurly Shield for the first time. Only an hour after the match had ended the team got on a train to Wellington, then the ferry to Lyttelton before arriving at the Timaru Railway Station on the Sunday afternoon. The local constabulary 'allowed' Sunday trading that day!

Round Six of the Heartland Championship plays out at Gisborne's Rugby Park this Saturday.
South Canterbury first played Poverty Bay in 1986, in the new National Division 3. The two sides have played each other on 28 occasions, with SC up 18-10. Shots here from the last time Poverty Bay played in South Canterbury, at Waimate's Manchester Park in 2022. Thanks to Clive Callow of Timaruonline for these gems.

South Canterbury v Mid Canterbury, a serious business!
Saturday's match at Fraser Park will be the 149th first class match between the two since 1927, and the 93rd Hanan Shield clash head-to-head since 1946. Always uncompromising, no quarter given and done expected!
