2026 Kathleen Conneely Memorial Island Walks, will take place on Clare Island on Saturday, 20th June and Inishturk on Saturday, 6th July.

Now in its 20th year, this popular community event has raised over €300,000 for charitable causes and this year will support two very deserving organisations – the Irish Cancer Society and Pancreatic Cancer Ireland. Both charities provide invaluable services, support and advocacy for cancer patients and their families throughout Ireland.

Cancer is something that has touched almost every family at some stage. Within our own club membership there will undoubtedly be players, coaches, volunteers, parents, grandparents and friends who have experienced the impact of cancer, either personally or through a loved one. By supporting these walks, our club can help ensure that vital services remain available to those who need them most.

The walks are suitable for all ages and abilities, making them an ideal outing for individuals, families, teams and club groups. Participants can choose from a variety of scenic self-guided routes, all under 10km, and enjoy a memorable day on two of Ireland’s most beautiful islands while raising funds for a worthwhile cause.

Throwback Thursday ….🙏🏉
From 1986 at the official opening of the club pitches & grounds in Carrowholly, When a Presidents XV played a Connacht XV with the late Fergus Slattery among several Irish Internationals inc Paul Dean, Ciaran Fitzgerald & Willie Duggan that played in the Westport jersey on the day.

Speaking yesterday IRFU President, John O'Driscoll - a former team-mate of Slattery's - said "Fergus Slattery (Blackrock College RFC, Ireland, British & Irish Lions and the Barbarians) was a giant of Irish rugby and a player who defined excellence in his era,"
In the photos here, he is standing next to Club President Joe McGovern, alongside Dave McKeown (Touch Judge) with a fresh faced John McCormack in front who played in the centre for the game.

May He Rest In Peace 🙏
