Westport Swimming Club provides professional coaching to our members from around Clew Bay who represent the team in competitions from Connacht Regional galas to Swim Ireland National meets, and beyond, guided by club coaches Barry Robinson & Peggy Dever. The Club is based in Westport Leisure Park and is run by professional coaches Barry Robinson and Peggy Dever, with the assistance of a committee
of parents who work on a voluntary basis. The Club is affiliated to Swim Ireland, the National Governing Body for competitive swimming in Ireland. Every year the competitive season runs in parallel to the academic calendar year, and in Westport the swimming year is broken into three separate terms from September to Christmas, Christmas to Easter, and Easter to Summer. New swimmers focus on swimming fundamentals and the acquisition of swimming skills, with our development coach Peggy Dever, while our more experienced swimmers focus on learning to train, training to train and training to win, with lead coach Barry Robinson. Our weekly timetable is detailed below:
Monday: 16:30 - 18:00 (Barry & Peggy). Tuesday: 18:30 - 20:00 (Peggy):
Wednesday: 17:15 - 18:45 (Barry & Peggy). Thursday: 17:15 - 18:45 (Barry & Peggy). Friday: 13:30 - 15:00 (Barry). Westport Swimming Club has enjoyed tremendous success over the years at Regional, National and International level competitions, and Westport swimmers have won Gold medals in The Irish Open National Championships, The Irish Age Group Championships, The Irish Minor Schools Championships, and the National Finals of the Community Games. Westport Swimming Club is always seeking new talented young swimmers who like swimming, and may be interested in competitive swimming. So, if you are comfortable swimming lengths of the pool, and can do two or three of the swimming strokes, come and join us, and give yourself the chance to be the best you can be at swimming. New candidates are assessed free of charge and we are more than happy to welcome swimmers from any swimming programme who are willing and able to try competitive swimming.
