🔵⚪ FULL TIME | BALLINROBE B 3–2 GLENHEST ROVERS B

Our B Team travelled to Ballinrobe to take on league leaders Ballinrobe B.

The home side started brightly and we found ourselves 2–0 down after just 16 minutes. But in typical Glenhest fashion, the lads refused to throw in the towel and the fightback began.

After some good play down the wing from Kevin Cooney and Ethan Reilly, we won a free kick on the left-hand side of the box. Luke Redmond stepped up and curled a brilliant effort into the bottom corner to make it 2–1 just before half-time.

Ballinrobe came out with serious intent in the second half, but some excellent defending from Ruairí McManamon, Tony Lenighan, Damien Murray and Kevin Chambers kept us in the game. Ballinrobe eventually extended their lead on 66 minutes, and only for some excellent goalkeeping from Jason McManamon, the deficit could have been greater.

The lads kept battling and began to put the pressure back on. Kealum Redmond, Kevin Cooney, Declan McManamon and Luke Redmond started to get a foothold in midfield and create opportunities for Ethan Reilly and Cillian Reilly up front.

We pulled another one back after some great work from Cillian Reilly won us a free kick. Tony Lenighan’s delivery found Damien Murray, who managed to turn it into the back of the net. We’re still not entirely sure what body part it came off, but Murray is claiming it! 😂

We pushed for an equaliser, but it wasn’t to be and the game finished 3–2.

The result secured the league title for Ballinrobe B, but huge credit to our lads who never lay down and made them work right until the end for it.

Congratulations to Ballinrobe Town AFC, worthy winners of the McDonnell Construction League Two.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be for us on Sunday as we fell to a 2-1 defeat after extra time against Castlebar Celtic in the Benson Cup Final.

While the result is disappointing, we are immensely proud of the lads and the huge effort they put in, not only on Sunday but throughout the last number of weeks in preparation for the final.
A massive thank you to all the players and management for their commitment and dedication throughout the campaign.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came out to support us on Sunday. It was brilliant to see such a strong Glenhest crowd in Milebush getting behind the lads from start to finish. Your support was greatly appreciated by everyone involved.

Many thanks also to Paul Dorrian, our physio on the day, for his help and support.

A special thank you also to Michael and Cillian Staunton for the fantastic photos from Sunday, capturing some great moments from a memorable day for the club.

It wasn’t the ending we had hoped for, but we couldn’t be prouder of everyone involved.

We’ll dust ourselves down and go again. 🔵⚪

Match Report | Glenhest Rovers B 1-0 Westport United C

Our Men’s B team made it back-to-back league victories with a hard-earned 1-0 win over Westport United C on The Strand last night.

Glenhest started brightly, with Bobby Canning at the heart of the early attacking play as the hosts looked to take control from the opening whistle. Throughout the game, the back four of Eoin Mullarkey, Damien Murray, Evan Barrett and Kevin Chambers were outstanding, defending resolutely whenever called upon.

In midfield, Owen H***e, Bobby Canning, Matthew Horan and Keith Mulroy played some excellent football, controlling possession and creating several good opportunities for Stephen Chambers and Cillian Reilly.

The decisive moment came when Matthew Horan delivered a superb ball into the box and Cillian Reilly rose highest to power a header into the bottom corner, giving Glenhest a deserved lead.

Westport pushed hard for an equaliser in the closing stages, but they couldn’t find a way past “Sock” in goal, who produced a number of excellent saves to preserve the clean sheet.

It was a brilliant team performance from start to finish. Well done to the entire squad, and it’s great to see players returning from injury and competition for places continuing to grow.
