U14 Boys Div 1
A much changed Ballyhar side took to the field in Milltown Saturday morning for the 1st game of the season.
A very well drilled Milltown side were tough to break down and took the lead on a counter-attack.
Tadhdg Fitzgerald tried a long range effort from outside the box to level the score at 1-1. The last ten minutes of the first half saw two more goals go in with Milltown scoring first and Fabian Mrotek spotting the keeper out of place and firing in another spectacular goal for Ballyhar to send the sides in level at half time.
HT 2-2
The second half was a complete goal fest, unfortunately for Ballyhar, Milltown fired in four goals without reply.
Jack Cooper turned the tide with another long range effort taking the score to 6-3. Soon afterwards Tadgh Fitzgerald scored his second and Ballyhar's Fourth. The comeback was well and truly on! And when Ballyhar won a free kick just outside the Milltown area, Dara Flaherty stepped up to send it into the back of the net and make it 6-5.
Then as Ballyhar franticly charged forward looking for the equaliser, Milltown broke and after a shot from outside the box was well saved by Dermot Nealon, Milltown got another bite at the cherry, that shot cannoned off the crossbar with the rebound hitting a defender's hand and a penalty awarded to Milltown. There striker made no mistake to make it 7-5 but with just seconds left Ballyhar, who were relentless in attacking, got their sixth goal a second for Jack Cooper. Final Score Milltown 7 - Ballyhar 6
We would like to thank Milltown FC for their hospitality today and for a fine sporting fixture and wish them well for the rest of the season.

U16 Division 1 result.
Park A 1- Ballyhar 2
Our U16's got their league campaign off to the best start as they took a well deserved 3 points following a great away performance.

Ballyhar started strong defensively, limiting Park from open play. Unfortunately we went behind on 12 mins from an outstanding free-kick, struck right into the top corner from just outside the box. It was a setback the lads dealt with very well, immediately getting back on top. Ballyhar created some good opportunities with Daniel Ryan unlucky on 2 occasions after good runs. The well deserved equaliser came when a free-kick just on halfway was floated into the box, an initial shot was saved by the keeper, but Danny Fitzpatrick didn't miss the rebound and volleyed it to the roof of the net. H/T 1-1
Park started the 2nd half well but Alex Finn was clearing everything they threw his way. Mark Van der Merwe joined him at centre back and did very well for his first time playing at U16. Aaron Looney came on for Joshua O'Sullivan at right back and did brilliantly, as Park tried to push down the left. Luke Bartlett and Fitzpatrick worked relentlessly in midfield with Josh Nelligan showing fantastic touches up front. Ballyhar were playing really well and took the lead after a handball gave us a free kick 20 yards out. Up stepped Finn to send a rocket past the keeper. After that Park pushed hard for an equaliser, but good composure, hard work and great teamwork limited Park to long range efforts which never hit the target.

A great first league win for the lads with everyone playing well despite missing key players. A special mention to Darragh O'Sullivan who was outstanding all game and new signing Danny Fitzpatrick who had a big influence on the game. But MOTM has to go to Alex Finn who was dominant at centre back and scored a great free kick to win it.
Thanks to Park for a good opening day battle.

We will be holding our Younger Ages Academy Registration Day on Sunday Sept 13th from 11am to 12noon. If your child was born between 2017 and 2021, register your interest for the season ahead by coming along and signing them up. We look forward to welcoming New members and our returning Academy players in the coming weeks.

As school returns and routines are adjusted again, it's always good to know that your community is here to help. O'Connor Spar Firies is big part of our community and want to let parents know, that if you get delayed, or something else happens, Spar is a safe place for your child can go after school to wait. A lovely gesture and what community should be about.
