Back in the Triassic and Jurassic periods, the area we now know as Mayo was actually under a shallow sea. Over millions of years, there was a lot of sedimentation, with limestone and calcareous deposits forming. Then, as tectonic activity lifted the land, you got exposed cliffs, rich in fossils. So, in a sense, the entire coastal landscape has been shaped over millinia by those ancient marine processes. It’s pretty incredible to think about!

Yesterdays paddle was extra special as conditions afforded our Level 2 sea paddlers the opportunity to witness for themselves this stunningly spectacular coastline. Some of the most experienced kayakers would say these cliffs are probably the best in Europe and we get to see and mingle around these majestic structures.

This is why people are so drawn to sea kayaking. We get to go to and see places very few people are privileged enough to experience.

No, not VR or PlayStation; way more exciting than that!

This is one of our juniors on the River Moy at Cloongulane this morning.

Definitely a Funday Sunday 😁

Great Friday night pool session for the adults last night, for all levels. . It was baltic outside and we were warm n toasty inside Ballina Swimming pool.

Huge support from the coaches and instructors.

Like most things in life everything is not as it seems. It takes a huge amount of effort every Friday night to get the Club boats required from container over to the pool. Unload. Wash them out and bring them inside. Have our skills session and then reverse that process. Get the boats from the pool outside and all loaded up again and then back to container and unloaded again so they are available for use by members during the week and then Friday night REPEAT!

One club member has made that process a whole lot easier. It all still needs to be done but it has been simplified and the Club are so, so grateful πŸ™

We'll show you in a later post why we are so delighted and immensely grateful. πŸ˜†
