Royals had an exceptional day at Met Regatta on Sunday, laying down our best senior squad performance at this event in recent years.

On the men’s side, a Champ 4+, Champ 2x, and Club 4- competed. Both of the Championship boats reached the A Final in their respective class, an amazing achievement in itself - followed by the 4+ finishing 2nd in the Champ event and 4th overall, and the 2x finishing 5th after a decisive move in the final stretches of the race. The 4-, in their first race as a combination, gained some valuable experience ahead of the sharp end of the summer. As crew formation concludes and the wind up to Henley Royal begins, these are incredibly encouraging results which promise greater speed to come.

For the women, it was an excellent and enjoyable day which showcased the competitive spirit of the squad overall. Two eights competed, solidifying promising results from Notts City, with the 1st 8+ coming 3rd in the C Final and the 2nd 8+ 2nd in the E Final. With Henley Women’s Regatta in just a few weeks, they now return to the Dee to begin the final grind.

Next up for the senior squad is HWR and Marlow, both on the third weekend in June.

The senior women wore their first club kit with pride during their recent home-water training camp.

The Royal Chester senior squad hails from all over - our athletes learned to row as far away as Northern Ireland and London, as locally as Liverpool and Manchester, and a few right here at Royal Chester.

If you are leaving university or school, and are interested in joining a highly competitive but friendly programme in the beautiful city of Chester, come along to our Open Day on the 7th June - the link for individual athletes (rowers and coxes) to sign up is in our bio, or DM us for more information.

Our juniors attended National Schools’ Regatta this weekend at Dorney Lake, enjoying some absolutely glorious weather and coming away with some of Royals’ best results in recent years.

On Friday, two quads each from the J15 squads competed. The girl’s quads finished 7/48 and 5/21 in the 1st and 2nd WJ15 4x+ time trials respectively, paving their way to the B and A finals in these events. The boy’s 1st 4x+ finished 19/47, with the 2nd 4x+ placing 23/28, followed by 1st and 2nd in their individual D finals.

On Sunday, an open and girls’ Ch 2x competed, again from the J15 squad - racing against athletes far above their own age class, both boats still put up brave and competent performances.

Overall, the squad have laid down nationally competitive results this weekend, of which they should be extremely proud. Huge thanks as usual go to our junior coaching team and junior parent volunteers who put so much time and effort into getting our younger members on the water, whether it’s on the Dee or at Dorney 🙌🏻

Shrewsbury Regatta and the Shrewsbury Sprint is always a highlight of the Royals racing calendar, and this year the Masters, Development, and Junior squads all enjoyed some exciting racing on the River Severn, coming away with a fair few wins across the weekend!

Many thanks to Pengwern RC for hosting such a great event, and to everyone who supported racing through trailer driving, volunteering, or cheering on the bank.

Royals had a large number of crews racing this weekend across several events across the country. Firstly, our seniors attended Nottingham City Regatta at Holme Pierrepont, coming away with some promising results across the whole squad.

Particularly impressive were the senior men, with wins in both the Op4+ and Op4- for the same group of athletes, and in the Op2x, who won both the all-comers event in the morning and the Club event in the afternoon. A second Op4- and Op2x also raced, gaining vital experience ahead of the weeks to come.

The senior women finished 2nd and 5th in the all-comers W8+, then, again in eights, 5th in the A Final and 6th in the B Final in the afternoon - their aim for the day being to gather experience in new combinations and changeable conditions.

Next up for the senior squad is Met Regatta at the beginning of June.

Royals is very proud of our three J15 athletes who raced at the Junior Interregional Regatta on Saturday, representing the North West region. In glorious weather at Holme Pierrepont, the WJ15 2x of Isla and Maeve finished 5th in the B Final, while Josh in the J15 1x was 2nd in the B Final. Well done to the three athletes, and thank you to their coaches, squad, and parents for supporting them at the weekend and throughout the season so far.

Our senior women’s squad have launched their fundraising campaign, which aims to raise £9000 towards the purchase of a new eight. This will support their growing squad in competing nationally at events such as Henley Royal Regatta, and represents a significant investment in women’s rowing at Royals.

The squad will be undertaking a series of fundraising activities over the coming months - keep your eyes on our socials for details 👀

As part of the campaign, the senior women have committed to volunteering to say “thank you” at each financial milestone they reach on the thermometer - whether that’s to the club and its members, or to our wider community here in Cheshire.

The link to donate is in our bio, or you can scroll across for a QR code! 🚣
