⚫🟠 A MIXED BUT CRACKING WEEKEND FOR ACOMB FC 🟠⚫

One win. One loss. One draw. Plenty of goals.

First up, our First Team travelled to Scarborough to take on Edgehill Development in the County Cup.

Taking absolutely nothing away from Edgehill, who were a fit, physical side, Acomb controlled the game for the full 90 minutes.

The football wasn’t always pretty, but we went there with a few different game plans, executed them well and, to a man, the lads put in a brilliant shift.

FULL TIME: EDGEHILL DEVELOPMENT 1–6 ACOMB FC

⚽⚽⚽ Sheldon James
⚽ Jack Stott
⚽ Aidan Funnell
⚽ Ben Kemp

πŸ† MOTM: Sheldon James

Three goals and Man of the Match. Not a bad way to announce yourself on the opening weekend. πŸ‘

We did concede a late penalty when Sean Allan temporarily forgot which sport he was playing and decided to turn into John Cena, but apart from that it was a really controlled performance.

Six goals. Job done. Into the next round. πŸ‘Š

Next up, our Reserves played their first ever competitive fixture as a team, taking on Duncombe Park First Team in the Challenge Cup.

And it was some introduction.

Duncombe Park play in the same league as our First Team, so there was no hiding from the size of the challenge.

The lads battled, stuck together and did themselves proud. Most importantly, this brand-new side managed to put three goals past a quality, established First Team.

Unfortunately, Duncombe proved too strong on the day and their experience showed, running out 12–3 winners.

It's a heavy scoreline, but this Reserve side is at the very beginning of its journey. There will be lessons learned, heads held high and plenty more to come from this group.

Then onto Sunday and the little ones…

Unfortunately, the opposition for our U8 Reds were unable to field a team, meaning we had just the one U8 fixture.

Our U8 Blacks welcomed Strensall Tigers Yellow, and the two teams put on an absolute cracker.

⚽ FULL TIME: 5–5

Goals, end-to-end football and probably significantly more energy than any of the adults had left after Saturday.

So that's the weekend:

βœ… One win
❌ One loss
🀝 One draw

A brilliant weekend across the club and another reminder of just how quickly Acomb FC is growing.

Massive thank you to everyone who travelled, stood on the sidelines, helped with the teams or came down to support.

And the best bit?

We go again next weekend. ⚫🟠

Pre season well underway, we are still looking for a 1st team goalkeeper.

Tag away.....

06/08/2026

⚽ Pre-season is well underway, and all three of our teams are putting in the hard work ahead of the new campaign.

We're still on the lookout for a 1st Team Goalkeeper. This is a fantastic opportunity to earn regular minutes in an established side competing at a high level.

Know someone who fits the bill? Tag them below! πŸ‘‡

This role would also be ideal for a talented U19s goalkeeper ready to step up into senior football.

πŸ“ Training: Thursday, 6:00pm

Think you've got what it takes? Drop us a message and come along to training.

πŸ’™ FOOTBALL IS MORE THAN 90 MINUTES πŸ’™

This weekend we welcomed Jorvik City to Chesney Field for a charity match in aid of men's mental health.

The football was important, but the cause was far bigger than the result. Both clubs came together to raise money and awareness for an issue that affects thousands of men across the UK every year.

Acomb fielded a mixed squad made up of Under 19s, Reserves and First Team players, giving everyone the opportunity to share the pitch and continue building the one-club mentality we're creating.

As for the football...

It was the first proper run out for most of the lads since last season, so there were plenty of tired legs and questionable touches.

Acomb took the lead through a well-taken penalty from Kane, making it 1-0.

It should have been two... but unfortunately, our First Team captain Lewis Smith demonstrated that he possesses two left feet and somehow managed to miss a penalty your nan probably buries.

Both teams created chances and played some really good football throughout the afternoon, making for an entertaining game played in exactly the right spirit.

Now onto the Man of the Match...

πŸ₯‡ Rob Joy

Rob refereed the first 60 minutes before deciding he'd quite fancy the last 30 minutes playing for Acomb.

Football boots?

Absolutely not.

Nike TNs.

Final stats:

⚽ Goals: 0
🎯 Assists: 0
βœ… Completed Passes: 0
πŸ›‘οΈ Interceptions: 0
πŸš€ Shots: 0

But statistics don't tell the full story.

His off-the-ball movement was revolutionary. His commitment to remaining completely stationary for half an hour was unmatched. A performance that won't be forgotten any time soon.

The afternoon was a huge success.

Yes, Acomb picked up the win.

Yes, the cobwebs have been blown away.

But more importantly, together we raised money for something that genuinely matters.

Around 4,500 men die by su***de every year in the UK, with men accounting for approximately three-quarters of all su***des.

Those numbers have to change.

At Acomb FC, we're more than just a football club.

If you're struggling, feeling isolated, lacking purpose or simply need to get out of the house...

Come down and train with us.

There'll be no charge.

Football won't solve every problem, but exercise, fresh air, teammates and a bit of banter can make the hard days feel a little less heavy.

Our doors are always open.

You don't have to suffer in silence.

πŸ’™ You are never alone.

πŸ† Pre-Season Starts Next Week! ⚽

The countdown is on! Pre-season gets underway next week, and we can't wait to get back on the grass.

There's still plenty of room for new players, so if you're looking for a new club, want to get fit, or fancy being part of a great group of lads, drop us a message.

πŸ“ Training takes place at Chesney Field.

Everyone is welcome – see you next week! πŸ’™βš½

🍻 ACOMB FC END OF SEASON DO 🍻

Well... that's another season officially put to bed.

Last Saturday saw the lads descend on the End of Season Do, and to absolutely nobody's surprise, players were already pi**ed before the official start time.

The evening kicked off with the awards, celebrating the good, the bad and... Rob Joy.

First up was our Vice Captain, Swizz, collecting the Manager's Player of the Season award, presented by his Dad and Uncles. A lovely moment for everyone involved...
..apart from Sam Robinson, who stood there in a shirt and tie, girlfriend on his arm, looking like Will Smith at the Oscars after being completely overlooked.

The winners on the night were:

πŸ† Manager's Player of the Season – Swizz
πŸ† Chairman's Player of the Season – Adrian
πŸ† Players' Player of the Season – Connor

Our skipper, Lewis Smith, also collected the prestigious Tit of the Year award, although we're currently under strict legal advice not to comment any further on the matter.

A lot of people have asked why Jack Stott wasn't in attendance.

Unfortunately, Jack became involved in what can only be described as an unfortunate incident at the Morrisons hot food counter. We don't want to discuss the finer details, but sources tell us it was anything but pretty. As a result, Jack was reportedly carrying out community service and couldn't make it.

The rest of the evening is probably best left undocumented if we're trying to keep this page suitable for all ages.

However, we did learn a few valuable lessons...

🐎 You cannot fix virtual horse racing. Apparently, it's impossible.
πŸƒ Sean Allen can shift when required.
πŸ’‡ And yes... Adrian really does spray his hairline.

On a more serious note, Saturday was also the last party for our Scottish Pirlo, Luca, who is heading back home to Scotland.

Luca, you've been an absolute pleasure to have around the club. Thank you for everything you've brought to Acomb FC, and you'll always be welcome back through our doors.

Finally, a massive thank you to every one of our sponsors, our committee (old and new), and our management team. None of these nights happens without the time and effort you all put in behind the scenes. We genuinely appreciate everything you do for this club.

Until pre-season...

*P.S. If anyone happened to see a fully grown bloke sprinting through Foxwood with no clothes on at around 8pm on Saturday evening... we'd like to apologise.

We wish we were joking.*
