Another fantastic weekend of racing for York City Rowing Club, with 41 athletes representing the club across both and Peterborough Regatta. 🚣‍♂️🚣‍♀️

At Metropolitan Regatta, our Senior Women’s 8+ continued their strong season, finishing 3rd in the F Final on Saturday before improving again to take 4th in the E Final on Sunday.

The Senior Men also put in some impressive performances, with the 4+ finishing 6th in the E Final and the 8+ taking 2nd place in the L Final on Saturday. On Sunday, our Senior Men’s 2x raced brilliantly to finish 2nd in the B Final.

A huge thank you to and for generously lending our senior men a fantastic double scull for the weekend. Your support is hugely appreciated.

There was also plenty of success for our senior and masters squad at Peterborough regatta:
🥇 OpMas E 2- winners
🥇 WMasF 1x winners
🥇 WMasF 4+ winners
Op4x: 7th

Congratulations to everyone who raced, coached, trailered, supported and volunteered throughout the weekend. The hard work continues as we build towards the rest of the regatta season.

A fantastic weekend representing Yorkshire at the Junior Inter-Regional Regatta last weekend.

Rowan delivered an outstanding performance in the single, progressing through the time trial into the A final and finishing a strong fourth against tough competition. A brilliant result and a performance the whole club is very proud of.

Our J16 girls – Elsa, Amie, Megan and Githaali – took on their first ever sweep race in a composite crew alongside , and . After an excellent time trial securing a place in the B final for Yorkshire, they raced with confidence and determination in what was a hugely valuable experience.

A proud moment for the club, and an exciting glimpse of what is to come.

Thank you to for the opportunity.

We are so proud to share that Phil Jones has now been presented with his British Empire Medal by Mrs Johanna Ropner, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of North Yorkshire.

This is such a well-deserved recognition. Over many decades, Phil has given so much to York City Rowing Club, especially through his work as Junior Coordinator and coach. His dedication has shaped the club in countless ways and had a lasting impact on generations of athletes, including those who have gone on to perform at the very highest level.

It is wonderful to see that contribution recognised, and we could not be happier for him.

A brilliant day for the club and our Senior Women at the Women’s Head of the River Race a few weeks ago.

Fielding two women’s eights is an achievement in itself and a reflection of the strength and depth building within our women’s squad. Our women’s “A” boat showed real grit to place 100th in a highly competitive field on the Tideway.

A proud day to build on, with plenty more to come.

York Outer, you’ve been keeping me busy!

I’ve been knocking on doors in Wheldrake and picking up casework, visiting York City Rowing Club, and dropping into New Earswick Primary School to see what pupils have been up to.

I also had the chance to pop into Boots UK at Monks Cross to meet the team, and joined a litter pick with my son Robin to do our bit locally.

And of course Woody made sure he appeared in the photos too!

Getting out and about across York Outer and hearing from constituents is always the best part of the job - so if you see me around, do come and say hello!

York rower Roger Davies learnt at 75 & won a medal at 79!
Think you can? Think you can’t? Either way, you are probably right!

Have you got your plans in place for 2026? Are you feeling the march of time a bit … or is the world opening-up for you this year? Whether you are starting secondary school, graduating, starting a career job in York, looking for “me time” after starting a family, or looking for a retirement project – York City Rowing Club have some suggestions for you.

Roger Davies learned to row in 2020, when he was 75 and won his first medal racing in Small Boats Head on the River Ouse last Autumn, just before his 80th birthday. Roger told us …

“People think you struggle to learn as you get older, but provided you can get in and out of a boat there’s nothing to stop you rowing. I’ve found out with rowing that you never stop learning. In the last few years I’ve been in a couple of races … and then won the Small Boats Head in a mixed, coxed quad against a crew from Hull in 2025.” Watch full interview to Roger on https://www.facebook.com/share/v/1874vNwABC/?mibextid=wwXIfr
