Tayforth Camanachd Tayforth Camanachd - Edinburgh & Lothians amateur Shinty Club always welcomes new players interested in joining our Men's (South 2) & Ladies team (South).

Tayforth Camanachd is a Shinty team with a catchment are covering East Central Scotland - from Edinburgh to Dundee. Established in 1973,the club has a tradition of attracting ex-Pat Highlanders, Hurlers and Students.

Thank you to everyone who attended our sixes today, 5 mixed teams competed, with the final victor being decided over a sudden death penalty shootout 🏑

Tayforth Ladies finished up their season on Sunday with a long trip up to Fort William to face Kilmallie. The young side opened up the scoring in the first quarter but Tayforth were quick to counter. The girls made chances for themselves up front with passes flowing and Emily Nisbet running opportunities up from the midfield creating a 3-1 lead at half time.

With a few shuffles to positions Cat McRoberts and Megan Maciver held strong in defence in front of Ailís Keyes in goals and Rebecca Courts and Demelza Stewart continued to ferry balls up through the midfield to a waiting Millie Macrae and Tara Danter. Kilmallie benefited from a second wind and added 2 more to their total with precise strikes from long range.

The final quarter was tight starting at 4-3 to Tayforth but Siobháin Lane managed to complete her hat trick to put some space on the scoreboard and give the visitors a more comfortable 5-3 win followed by a celebratory sea dip.

Player of the match went to Emily Nisbet for netting 2 goals of her own and channeling non stop to assist the other goals. Thank you to Kilmallie for a great game and for being excellent hosts and special mention goes to Alex Burton for organising and driving the minibus, a great way to top off a successful season.

*Tayforth 0-9 Strachur-Dunoon*

Tayforth brought the curtain down on the 2026 season at The Haws on Saturday against a strong Strachur-Dunoon side.

The visitors started quickly, with Brandon Wilson and Sandy Paterson both finding the net inside the opening three minutes. Strachur continued to show their quality in front of goal, building a commanding lead before the break and adding two more early in the second half.

Despite the scoreline, Tayforth kept battling. Ritch Asher put in another strong performance at wing back, while Derry Barton impressed at full back, including one particularly thunderous challenge. Neil Shearer went close with another looping effort from midfield, forcing the goalkeeper into a save.

After Strachur’s final goal in the 49th minute, Tayforth responded well and enjoyed some sustained spells in the opposition half, continuing to push forward until the final whistle.

This season has been a tough one on paper, and we take nothing away from Strachur-Dunoon’s deserved win, but there is one victory the league table will never reflect.

A club that was on the brink of collapse, after several years of losing key players, went from scrambling to find 12 men to regularly having more than enough for a team. This season was about survival, and we achieved that and then some.

Players travelled from as far as Oban and Skye, others dusted off camans that had been laid down for years, some did both! We are forever indebted to every person who answered the call.

We now have a group who turn out for each other, regardless of the scoreline. In our book, that is worth more than any win (although one would have been nice).

The future is bright. More precisely, it is Tayforth yellow and blue. 💛💙

Man of the Match was a close one again, but Neil Shearer came away top.

On Sunday Tayforth Ladies faced off against Ardnamurchan on a beautiful day on the west coast. After a tense opening, Tayforth kicked off the scoring with a neat tap in from Millie Macrae.

Settling into the game, the girls went 2-0 up however Ardnamurchan drew level after some key substitutions led to two goals in quick succession. From there the ball was truly end to end with action all over the park. After an exhilarating first half that saw 9 goals, Ardnamurchan were the leaders at 5-4 thanks to some excellent strikes from a clinical forward line.

Despite the heat, Tayforth did not put their heads down and only conceded one further goal in the second half in no small part to Megan MacIver making her return to defence after a run of 2 months in goals. Rachael Addison scored a screamer from an impossible angle and Kate O' Sullivan was unlucky not to add to the scoresheet herself.

The match really could have been anyones but Ard emerged on top with a narrow 6-5 victory. There were loads of individual performances on the day to be proud of but the standout player of the match was Demelza Stewart for her unerring ability to help anywhere on the field and nabbing two goals in the process.

Thanks go to Ardnamurchan for one of the most exciting games of the season and for their post match hospitality. The countdown is now on to our last game of the season away against Kilmallie.

Tayforth Ladies were back in Yoker on Sunday, this time playing in the Semi Finals of the Single Team Cup against a very competitive Dunadd side. With Dunadd being a league above, Tayforth were going into the game as the underdogs, yet all the girls were determined to put up a good fight.

They persisted in holding off Dunadd's attack for the first part of the game, in particular Demelza Stewart put in an excellent shift against prolific goal scorer Eilidh Cameron. Eventually though, Dunadd broke through the Tayforth defence and managed to achieve a quick succession of goals.

Not long before half time Tayforth clawed one back off the stick of Millie Macrae following a textbook cross in from Siobháin Lane. With a quick team talk and reshuffle, the second half saw much better play from the girls. Players were getting stuck into tackles, making cleaner hits and the workrate from the midfield was second to none.

Unfortunately despite this, another flurry of goals from Dunadd followed but a celebration was still to be had when Tara Danter scored her first goal for Tayforth after a perfectly timed run in on goals.

The final score ended 14-2 to Dunadd but the Tayforth girls have much to be proud of, not only for making it to the semi finals in the first place but for putting up a great fight against an excellent team, one which the scoreline did not reflect.

Player of the match was Demelza Stewart in defence for cutting off goal scoring opportunities left, right and centre and never dropping her pace. We thank Craig Scott for refereeing and Dunadd for a great game and wish them all the best for the finals.

*Bute 8 - 0 Tayforth*

Tayforth made the trip over to the Isle of Bute on a properly dreich day for the Duncan Cup, with heavy rain leaving the pitch waterlogged in places before throw-up.

With no substitutes available and the ball stopping dead in the standing water at times, it was always going to be a tough shift. The lads battled hard throughout, but were ultimately outclassed by a well-drilled Bute side who handled the conditions well and were clinical in front of goal.

That is not to say Tayforth did not have their moments, with some good breaks forward and spells of pressure, but the Bute defence stood firm whenever called upon.

At the other end, Derry Barton had a great game in goal, with the posts doing their fair share of the work too. Derry pulled off some key saves, including a brilliant double stop, first down at his feet and then again with help from the post as the ball spun off. He was also involved in a goalmouth clash with a Bute forward that somehow sent the ball straight up and over the bar from point blank range.

Full credit has to go to Bute, who took their chances well, including a brilliant half-volley from Robert Walker that was hard not to admire, even from the wrong side of it.

A tough day in difficult conditions, but Tayforth kept working right to the end. Man of the Match went to Ritch Asher, who put in a great defensive display out of position at wing back.

Match Report: Tayforth 5–0 Stirling
Tayforth secured an impressive 5–0 victory over Stirling in a competitive contest.
The match began with both sides evenly matched, with neither team willing to give an inch. Tayforth created plenty of chances and were unfortunate not to take the lead sooner, peppering the Stirling goal with relentless efforts. The breakthrough finally came just before half-time from a beautifully worked corner routine. Millie Macrae was perfectly positioned at the top of the D and struck home to give the hosts a deserved 1–0 lead heading into the break.
The second half saw Tayforth produce a commanding performance, built on an unbreakable defensive display that left Stirling with little opportunity to threaten. The introduction of some new faces proved invaluable, with Kate O'Sullivan marking her Tayforth debut in style by scoring her first goal for the club. Adrienne Rennie with her relentless work rate and tracking back to support her team.
Millie Macrae continued her fine afternoon by adding two more goals to complete a superb hat-trick, while Siobháin Lane rounded off the scoring with a well-taken finish into the bottom corner to seal a convincing 5–0 win.
Player of the Match deservedly went to Demelza Stewart, whose tireless performance at full centre was instrumental in Tayforth's success. She worked relentlessly to support both the defence and attack, breaking up play, driving the team forward, and was unfortunate not to cap her display with a goal or two herself.
A special mention also goes to Stirling, who showed great determination throughout and are clearly an exciting team with a bright future. Their full centre, Emily, impressed with an excellent all-round display, while goalkeeper Siobhan made several brave saves, putting both body and caman on the line for her team. They can take plenty of positives from the match, and it will be exciting to see how they continue to develop in the future.
