For years the club tried to engage with East Lothian Council to secure a home, a base, a clubroom for Scotland's oldest youth football, Musselburgh Windsor. We thought we had found the perfect fit in the Pinkie clinic. In 2010 we contacted the NHS who occupied the building and they confirmed they would not be renewing their 25-year lease. They moved into the new facility next to Tesco.

The club engaged with local Councillors and MSP as well as Sortscotland and Council officials. We tried and tried to secure the building, finally meeting with Angela Leitch, then Chief Executive of East Lothian Council. After years of meetings, emails and letter writing and getting the run-around, including a failed attempt to secure the building through the Community Asset Transfer, the Council have literally bulldozed our hopes and dreams.

Whilst other football clubs and sports organisations across Musselburgh and East Lothian have benefited from facilities courtesy of ELC, it is a matter of fact that Musselburgh Windsor FC who have existed for 67 consecutive years; have 500 young players and 125 coaches, will pay over £40,000 this season in facility hire yet have nothing to show for it all.

We invite East Lothian Council to say otherwise.

There is no C***k of Light.

The Club would like to wish Mr. Jim MacLean all the very best as he enters his final 5 days as a youth football coach. He will officially retire on Friday 6th December 2019 when he hosts his final training session followed by a reception for his family, friends, former players and guests.

Jim started his coaching journey in 1978 and has mentored hundreds of young people over four decades across central Scotland. His pupils have achieved outstanding success and their record (137 cup finals 100 wins (72%) win rate 40 league champions) reflects the impact he has had on them.

He joined Windsor in 2007 and was appointed Goalkeeping Academy Director responsible for keepers from age 8 to U-18. He mentored coaches and produced the Goalkeeping programme, not just focusing on technical goalkeeping skills but life skills. His dual-development approach ensured our young players were better people as well as better keepers.

It is a great shame that neither the Scottish FA or South East region staff have recognised his contribution over a lifetime. Jim hasn't pursued awards or recognition, preferring to take pride and satisfaction from seeing his pupils grow in ability, confidence and stature with his support.

The handwritten note pictured perfectly sums up his contribution to youth football.

In 2018 he received the John Murray shield from Musselburgh Windsor FC, our highest accolade and with it our thanks for everything you have done to better our national sport.

Jim MacLean, we salute you sir.
