Free tennis sessions & coaching

Weekend events in England, Scotland & Wales

If your kids dream of being the next Andy Murray or Emma Raducanu, you can 'net' free tennis sessions or coaching as part of Barclays Big Tennis Weekends, organised by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). They're on at more than 60 venues across England, Scotland and Wales.

These weekends run all year round – you can look online to find your nearest, so the ball's in your court to decide when and where to play.

Events and activities vary between venues, but will include cardio tennis, coaching and free play. It's aimed at young families, but everyone is welcome – all ages and abilities (though under-18s must be accompanied by an adult). Rackets and balls will be provided.

How to book

The LTA suggests you visit its website to book online in advance, but in some cases it's fine to turn up on the day as long as there's room. At some smaller venues, you won't be able to book in advance and are advised to just turn up – though if that's the case, it's always worth calling ahead to prevent a wasted trip.

If your kids think tennis is ace, you can net a bargain with this £4.99 'starter kit' from the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA). It contains:

a junior tennis racket
a set of tennis balls
access to free taster tennis sessions
an LTA Advantage membership

To buy a starter kit you'll need to sign up for a free LTA Advantage account.

The LTA originally ran this offer a few weeks ago, and it was popular. With Wimbledon in full swing, it's made 5,000 more kits available – it's best to go quick if you want one. Delivery's free.

How good is this deal? For comparison, the next cheapest we could find a junior racket and tennis balls (pack of two) was £11.99 at Asda, so we reckon this £5 LTA offer is decent.

Important information 🚗

There is a road closure from Darren's Chippy to the tennis club, with no access from Trewirgie Road or Coach Lane.

Diversions are in place via Carn Brea Village or Carnkie (through narrow road past St Euny Church).

The road will open again on Wednesday morning.
