Great to see the MERT.highland (Medical & Emergency Response Team) ambulance out on Sunday supporting the Etape Loch Ness 🚴‍♂️

We’re proud to support MERT and the incredible work they do, providing rapid medical response at events across the Highlands. Their presence makes a real difference in keeping participants safe.

A huge congratulations to everyone who took part in this year’s Etape Loch Ness – an amazing achievement! 👏

And a special well done to our very own Operations Director, David Duguid, who has once again successfully completed this fantastic sportive!

👏 Congratulations to our latest delegates from the University of the Highlands and Islands, who have successfully completed their GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) this week!

It’s been a pleasure to work with such a motivated group of students, all taking an important step towards careers in the renewables sector 🌍⚡

A big thank you to UHI Inverness for booking 16 BST places for students from across their engineering disciplines who have expressed an interest in renewables. This marks the successful completion of their second block of training with us, and we’re proud to support the next generation entering the energy industry.

Delivered in line with Global Wind Organisation standards, this training ensures delegates gain the essential skills and certifications needed to work safely and confidently in the sector.

We’re proud to play a part in developing a safer, skilled workforce for the future of energy in the Highlands.

We were proud to welcome Susie Hamilton to our training centre in Inverness this week.

As the Scottish Veterans Commissioner — and the first woman to hold this prestigious role — Susie is an independent champion for veterans and their families, working to ensure their voices are heard and supported as they transition into civilian life.

During her visit, Susie met participants on our Military to Wind pilot, hearing their stories, understanding their backgrounds, and seeing how their skills are being adapted for careers in the wind sector.

Developed with support from organisations including the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board and aligned with GWO standards, the programme is helping to create a clear and practical pathway into the industry.

Programmes like this are about more than training — they’re about creating real opportunities. The discipline, technical expertise and mindset that service leavers bring are a natural fit for the renewable energy sector, and it’s inspiring to see that transition in action.

It was a privilege to share the progress of the programme so far and to highlight the importance of building strong partnerships across industry.

Thank you to Susie and her team for their time, insight and continued support.

Thinking about getting into rope access?

Before anyone starts an IRATA course, there’s one skill that quickly separates confident candidates from nervous beginners: knot competency.

In our latest skills spotlight, our instructors walk through four of the core knots used in industrial rope access — the fundamentals you’ll rely on daily when working at height.

🪢 Four Essential Rope Access Knots:

• Figure of 8 on a bight
• Figure of 9 on a bight
• Stopper knot
• Alpine butterfly

In the video, we explore where these knots are used, why they matter, and common mistakes beginners make when first learning them.

Because in rope access, strong fundamentals aren’t just about passing an assessment — they’re about working safely and confidently at height.

Do you know how to support someone’s breathing in an emergency situation?

In a critical moment, knowing which airway manoeuvre to use can be just as important as knowing how to perform it.

In our latest skills spotlight, our instructors walk through the key differences between:

• Jaw Thrust
• Head Tilt–Chin Lift

More importantly, they explain when and why each technique is used.

When a spinal injury is suspected, airway management becomes more complex. In this video, we explore the reasoning behind using the jaw thrust technique to help protect the cervical spine while still maintaining a clear airway.

Because confident responders don’t just follow steps — they understand the rationale behind them.
