This isn’t us saying that a packet of crisps can fix everything when life’s unbearably hard. It’s just a reminder that, when things feel like a bit of a sh*tshow, the small stuff matters.

Struggling with the heat? Worried how you might cope with extreme temps?

The one trick I have used over and over again that works every time - the wet neck tube. Take your neck tube, thoroughly soak it, put it on. every couple of minutes or so, rotate the tube so the damp and cool section at the front of your throat sits on the back of the neck. Repeat until it needs re-soaking. Then repeat the whole process as required.

If someone is really suffering with the heat, this will help. The other points to keep cool are the wrists and the ankles. All three areas have blood vessels close to the surface of the skin so are great points to apply cooling methods to. (Same for heat if it's super cold but that is hardly an issue this week!)

Stay hydrated and keep cool.
See you soon

For the first time since I began practising 13 years ago, I will be making a small adjustment to my fees, effective from Monday 13 April.

I have held my fees at the same level throughout my career because I believe strongly in making care as accessible as possible for my patients. However, rising costs mean that a modest increase is now necessary to allow me to continue providing you with the same high standard of care you have come to expect.

Please see the updated fee schedule below:
Sports/Remedial Massage 1 hour £50
Sports Club Members £45
CRO/MREW team members £35

I am grateful for your continued trust and loyalty, and I want to reassure you that my commitment to your care remains unchanged. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to get in touch — I am always happy to talk things through.

Thank you for your understanding.

Massage is, in many ways, medicine too. Often the only way to calm a wound up muscle is to apply knowledgable hands. This cannot be found in a bottle or a tablet.

So, here we are at the end of 2025, the countdown to 2026 is very much underway, and it’s a time to look back across a year when the Cave Rescue Organisation turned 90 years old. A year when we responded to 96 full-team call-outs and our duty controllers managed a further 16 alerts. Of the full-team call-outs there were:
* 66 Mountain
* 9 Caving
* 7 Animal
* 14 Local (helping police, ambulance etc)

In total our team provided 3641 volunteer hours coming to the aid of people in need. The average volunteer hours per call-out was 38, with the most being 972 (Incident 85, assisting Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association with a cave rescue in Providence Pot). Add to these the hours team members put into training, checking and maintaining equipment and fundraising, it has been another busy year.

For those curious about which day of the week is busiest, unsurprisingly 38% of the call outs were on Saturday and 19% were on Sunday.
This year Thursday was the third most popular day (15%) to call us out!

But stats only tell part of the story, none of what we have achieved this year would have been possible without the generosity and understanding of so many. We are a charity and rely on fundraising and donations from you to ensure we are operationally ready for when the call comes; we will always be grateful for your support. We would like to say thank you to our volunteers both operational, and support, who respond to the calls for help we receive. And last, but by no means least, we thank our families for their support and understanding when the pager goes off, for the disrupted meals, for changed plans and for the disturbed nights when we are headed out, or coming back. Thank you all, without you we wouldn’t be the team we are!

Wishing you all the very best for 2026!

Now, you probably aren't thinking about anything after Christmas just yet. Oh no...far too many other things to sort out before the big day. But, when you do fancy a venture out, why not a walk?

Inglesport have some great suggestions and you can walk them either way. So, let the train take the strain when you need it most. Or jump on board and then walk your way back to where you left the car.

Here's hoping for some fair weather! Mountain Weather Information Service will have that covered.

If you’ve ever finished a Dales walk and thought, “Right… now I’ve still got to slog back to the car,” this one’s for you.

Our 𝗛𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗼𝗻-𝗶𝗻-𝗥𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗲 → 𝗥𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗹𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱 railway walk guide has had a refresh, and it now includes 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼 𝗶𝘁: the classic Pen-y-ghent summit, a shorter route that keeps things steadier, and a cracking option that brings in Ingleborough for a change of scenery. 👍

The joy is simple: finish at Ribblehead Station, hop on the train, and sit down for once.
