🥋 A HUGE DAY FOR DNA JUDO 🥋

A fantastic day for the DNA Judo family at today’s North West Area Dan Grading at Leigh Judo Club, with success on the mat and another exciting step forward for the club.

⚫️ SIÂN PEAK – 1ST DAN ⚫️

Craven Judo Academy fighter Siân Peak was outstanding. Siân won her first two contests to qualify for a line-up before dispatching each fighter one by one with full-point Ippon victories to earn her 1st Dan black belt on the day! 🥋🔥

A fantastic achievement and a massive congratulations to Siân!

⚫️ EVIE VOSE – 20 POINTS TOWARDS 2ND DAN ⚫️

North Lancs Judo Academy Head Coach Evie Vose went into today looking to add points towards her 2nd Dan.

Evie fought three contests, earning 10 points against another 1st Dan before adding a further five points apiece against two 1st Kyu fighters. That gives Evie 20 points from today and leaves her just 40 points away from her 2nd Dan! 👏

⚫️ GARY BENTLEY – 2ND DAN ⚫️

After spending the last 12 months on a mission to complete his 2nd Dan, Furness Judo Academy Head Coach Gary Bentley finally got the job done today!

Gary secured the final 10 points he needed to achieve his 2nd Dan, adding another fantastic milestone to his own judo journey and another 2nd Dan to the DNA Judo family. 🥋

And finally, DNA Judo Head Coach Danny Harper officially began his training to become a Senior Examiner.

A huge thank you to the North West Area for inviting Danny onto the programme. As a club, we recognise and appreciate the hard work the Area puts into developing clubs, coaches and examiners across our region.

We’d also like to say a huge thank you to Mickie for offering mat-side support to the team. Your help and encouragement were greatly appreciated throughout the day.

A brilliant day of progress, achievement and development across the DNA Judo family. Congratulations to Siân, Evie and Gary! 🥋🔥

🥉 ENGLISH CLOSED CHAMPIONSHIPS 2026 🥉

A brilliant weekend for the DNA Judo squad at UEL SportsDock, London! 🇬🇧🥋

🥉 Orla Spencer – Bronze | U57kg Pre-Cadet
A fantastic performance from Orla to secure a national bronze medal and, with it, earn herself a place on the England Development Squad! 🏴 A massive achievement and exciting next step in her development.

🥉 Siân Peak – Bronze | U63kg Cadet
Another superb performance, battling her way to national bronze and also earning selection onto the England Development Squad! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿💪🏼 A brilliant reward for all the work she’s been putting in.

🔥 Sophia Towart – 7th | U57kg Cadet
Two wins and two losses in a big field of 23; a strong performance showing she’s more than capable of competing at this level.

Millie Tate-Brown – U48kg Cadet
Two really close fights, including her first going to Golden Score. Despite the nerves, Millie showed she belongs at this level; the experience will come!

Patrick Peak – Cadet
A tough introduction to his new age category, drawing a top seed and established international medallist first up. He then dominated much of his second contest before being caught for Ippon. Loads to take away from his first Cadet event.

Edwin – Pre-Cadet
What a star! 🌟 His first competition at this level and in a new age category. He showed maturity beyond his years and produced a really competitive performance. A massive step forward!

Siân then stepped up again on Sunday to compete in the Juniors. Two defeats, but two decent fights against older opposition where she certainly didn’t look out of place; she just lacked experience at that level, and that will come. 👏🏼

We leave London with TWO English Closed bronze medals, TWO new England Development Squad players and loads of valuable experience across the team. 🥉🥉🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

A quick reminder to all DNA Judo members & parents to please check that your British Judo membership is active and up to date for the new judo season.

All DNA Judo members are required to hold a valid British Judo membership after completing their first 5 sessions.

⭐ DNA Judo is a British Judo Elite Provider, which means our members can benefit from a discounted membership rate.

When joining or renewing, please make sure you select the “Elite Full” membership option to access the discounted rate available to DNA Judo members.

British Judo membership provides your insurance cover and allows you to grade, compete and have your progression officially recognised.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Parents; if you have more than one child training with us, please remember to check each child’s membership individually.

If your membership has expired, please renew it as soon as possible.

If you’re new to DNA Judo and still within your first 5 sessions, don’t worry; we’ll provide you with everything you need to get registered.

Tomorrow we welcome clubs from across the country to the DNA Judo Great North Open 2026, and we can’t wait to see everyone on the tatami.

A few reminders before you travel:

🎟️ Spectators: £3 per adult.
🥋 Competitors & Coaches: FREE admission.

The Great North Open is a grassroots event, and for many competitors this will be their very first experience of stepping onto a competition mat.

Please show respect to our athletes, coaches, referees, table officials and volunteers throughout the day. Every official is giving their time to help create a fantastic experience for everyone involved.

If you have any questions or concerns during the event, please come and speak to Danny at Control. We’ll always do our best to find a fair and positive solution while keeping the focus where it belongs; on creating an enjoyable experience for every competitor.

All entrant anomalies have now been contacted to discuss their available options, and we can now confirm our official weigh-in times for this Sunday’s DNA Judo Great North Open Championships.

Please arrive promptly for your allocated weigh-in. Keeping to these times is imperative in helping our event run smoothly and ensuring everyone gets on the mat as quickly as possible.

All competitors should weigh in wearing judo trousers and a T-shirt.

A huge thank you to everyone who has entered the DNA Judo Great North Open Championships 2026. We’re looking forward to welcoming clubs from across the country to Bishop Auckland this Sunday for another fantastic day of grassroots judo.

Entries remain OPEN under our late entry fee, so there’s still time to secure your place if you haven’t entered yet.

• Sending weigh-in times to all entered competitors by email.
• Publishing the weigh-in schedule on our social media later this afternoon or early evening.
• Contacting any competitors who we are currently unable to provide meaningful matches for. In these cases, we’ll explain the situation and offer a full refund.
• Responding to all outstanding entry enquiries and emails received over the past few days / weeks.

As always, our priority is delivering meaningful matches and the best possible competition experience for every judoka who steps onto the mat.
