✨So what is this 'Reformer Pilates'??

✨Here are Yorkshire Dales Pilates we've been teaching the reformer element of the pilates system since 2009 but it's been around for far longer...Joseph Pilates' original patent for it dates back to 1924!

✨It isn't a progression from the mat, it simply provides a different workout but with the same common themes of alignment, spinal flexion, extension, rotation and side bending weaving their way through the exercises.

✨The result is whole body and mind connection and improved strength, coordination, flexibility and balance. The same as the mat! But different 🤣

✨If you're intrigued, we've recently added a few extra Newcomers Classes to our timetable, Mondays at 12.30 and Thursdays at 6pm, available to book here: https://bookwhen.com/yorkshiredalespilates

✨Tops are compulsory in our studio 😆

I'm off to Ireland next weekend for 2 days of immersion in pilates 😁 The preparation for it has made me reflect on the continuing education I've completed over the last 2 decades and everything that we're able to offer here because of the experience and knowledge we've built up over the years 🤓 I do love a course!

And what's it all for? So that I can fully work within my scope of practice as a pilates teacher and have a lifelong career in this job that I adore. So I can be confident when I welcome people into the studio with osteoporosis, Parkinson's disease, MS, hip and knee replacements and know that our sessions will be safe, effective and enjoyable. So that I keep up to date with fresh ideas, current research and fitness trends in an industry that is, at best, self regulated.

And ultimately so that here in our small studio in rural North Yorkshire we can always offer you a standard of pilates that you could, and should, expect to find in any reputable pilates studio anywhere in the world 🩵

✅️ Exercises and Drills for Walking and Running

✅️ Improve your gait, running form, balance and coordination with these simple exercises and drills.

✅️ For context, I made this video for a client with a Parkinson's diagnosis who was keen to return to running. It brings in running drills, fitness moves and pilates.

✅️ As always, there's no blueprint for exercise prescription; even the same body can feel different on a different day and we've worked together to figure out what works.

✅️ You might be able to try a few or all of the moves but watch it through first. You'll need a flat, smooth, grassy surface, a mat and a wall or tree.

✅️ It's been really interesting to combine the principles behind pilates and running coaching (my two favourite things 💚) to help improve walking and running form.

Improve your gait, running form, balance and coordination with these simple exercises and drills.
